"I can drive," Steve quickly said as I took a bite of the apple and stared at him for a moment.

"I think I'm good... thanks though," I replied, "I'd rather ride so I'm not walking home later. Come on, we're going to be late."

He just silently nodded and grabbed his keys and jacket before heading out of the house ahead of me. I quickly finished my apple, tossed it in the bin and then followed him out, locking the door behind me and then climbing onto my bike. I glanced over at Steve and paused a moment as I realised he had my bag with him—I hadn't even realised that I didn't pick it up.

"Yo? Can I have my bag back?" I asked.

"Sure. When we get to school, leather girl," was what I got in return before he pulled off the drive, hand sticking out of the window to flip me off.

Dick!

I flipped him off right back and pulled my helmet on before driving out after him.

What's his deal this morning??

Everyone is being fucking weird lately.

"Give me that," I snatched my bag out of Steve's hand as I hurried to catch up to him having just finished parking.

"You're welcome," he stated.

"For what?" I asked.

"For carrying your bag."

I stared at him, wondering if he was being serious right now.

"Dude, you stole my bag and then put it on a seat to drive," I pointed out, "you were not carrying it. You were a pain in my ass.

He was about to reply when someone on the basketball team called out to him, and he was beckoned over.

"Later," I turned and walked in the opposite direction and started towards the school.

I have... I think mathematics first period today, so I think I'll head over there early and spend homeroom in there. I wanted to ask about those equations we did the other day. Statistics. It sucked and I can't remember it for shit so the like fifteen minutes of extra help would be absolutely fantastic.

Lunch_

"Y/n! Hey! Y/n!" a voice called, I stopped and glanced around until I spotted Nancy hurrying over to me.

"Afternoon, Nance," I greeted her with a nod.

"Where were you?" she asked.

"When?"

"This morning? I missed first period," she answered.

"Uh... it's Thursday. Steven McFloppy hair picks you up on a Thurs... ah. I see the issue," I nodded quickly figuring out what was wrong here. Steve was at mine, and he went straight to school from there this morning, and I followed right on after totally forgetting that Nancy wouldn't have a lift because of that.

Whoops.

"Yeah, sorry about that. I completely blanked," I awkwardly smiled, "have you seen him today?"

"Yeah. Yeah, I am apparently bullshit," she replied.

They're just the same person in all of this.

"Ok," I nodded before letting out a small hum, "but, you know, are you being honest with yourself and him? Do you love him or not? Because drunk you seems to think... not."

Nancy just sighed, "I... I don't know. I don't want to talk about this with you though, you're not the type to take this kind of thing seriously."

"Beg your pardon?" I gave her a baffled look, "am I not literally taking this seriously right now?"

"Fine. Ok," she crossed her arms and faced me straight on, "maybe I am lying to myself. About everything."

"Confused. Everything being..?" I gave her a confused look.

"Steve. Barbs... you," she listed.

I felt my heart drop for a moment and frowned, "what... what's that supposed to mean?"

"Y/n, I need some time to think about everything so can you just... I don't know, give me a little space for a bit?" she asked, "I'll find someone else to help you with your tutoring—"

"No," I put my hands up and backed away, "no need. I can figure that out on my own. Good luck, I don't know, soul searching or whatever."

"Y/n—"

I turned and started to walk back the way I'd come. I am no longer hungry now, so I think I'll just go to the library or something. I've got like a shit ton of chemistry homework to do anyway.

End of the day_

"Oi! Dick!" I shouted when I spotted Steve, "the hell did you say to Nancy? She's acting like she wants to completely end our friendship now too!"

He stopped and turned to me with a confused look, "I don't... I don't why she'd want to do that. All we spoke about was what she said at the party. I told her to prove herself wrong and she couldn't, so we left it at that."

"Yeah, well, we're both fucked now," I sighed, "the hell is going on with her, seriously?"

"Guilt," Steve answered, "she was talking about the night Barbara disappeared. Said we'd killed her and that I didn't care."

"We didn't kill her though," I replied, "a series of unfortunate circumstances led up to her death, yes, but we didn't kill her. That... that thing did."

"I know that," he nodded, "she knows that. We all know that so why is she like this?"

"Barbs was a really big part of her life, you know? They were friends since they were like kids," I told him, "I didn't join their group until I moved here so sometimes it didn't feel like I was part of their thing, but I understand the way she's acting. Barbs was important. Basically her sister. But, even so, she shouldn't be taking her guilt out on us."

"I'm behind you on that one," he nodded.

Letting out a hum, I adjusted the bag on my back with a small nod, "anyway, I'm cutting the rest of the day. I just cannot focus at all. Later."

"You sure that's a good idea?" he quickly asked as I started to walk away, "that sounds like an incredibly steep slope back into old habits."

"It's one day—not even a day. One afternoon, Steven, chill out," I patted his arm as I passed him, "again, later."

"Yeah. Sure. Ok," he nodded, "later."

Today... today has been a day. Damn.
