Chapter 8

Wow.

They're bickering like an old married couple, goddamn.

"Guys, who cares?" Max cut in, "we've got to go."

"I care! You put the party in jeopardy! You broke the rule of law!" Lucas shouted, gaze snapping from Max to Dustin again.

"Well, so did you!" Dustin fired back.

"What?!"

"You told a stranger the truth!"

"Whoa now, lower the torch(/flashlight)," I rolled my eyes as Dustin raised the light up and near blinded poor Max who was just awkwardly standing beside him.

"A stranger?!" Max scoffed.

"Well, you wanted to tell her too!" Lucas argued.

"Yeah! But I didn't, did I, Lucas?!" Dustin shouted.

I glanced to Steve to see him giving me a fed-up expression and both of us just sighed.

"Do we... go on ahead or is that like not responsible of us?" I whispered to him.

"I have no idea," he whispered back before glancing to the side and freezing.

He smacked me slightly and I glanced back to where he was looking, "what? What is it?"

"Listen," he pointed forward with he light of his torch(/flashlight) in his hands.

I couldn't really see much but I could hear a weird sound, and it was definitely coming from that direction.

Quickly, I pulled the machete back out from off of my back and nodded back towards the bickering trio.

"Hey! Guys!" Steve called out to them before focusing forward, bat ready to attack if needed as we began to move towards the sound.

Dustin and Lucas hurried after us while Max just questioned why we were going towards the sound before finally following as well.

The closer we got to it, the more that the sound sounded like the creatures roaring out again.

"Isn't... the lab this way?" I asked as we walked.

"Can't remember," was the helpful response I got from Steve as we stopped at the edge of a ridge and glanced around.

"I don't see him," Dustin commented, obviously referring to Dart since that noise was definitely the noise that those fuckers were making earlier while attacking us.

"Y/n's right," Lucas commented as he looked through his binoculars and pointed the lab out to us, just a few lights in the middle of the forest right now, "it's the lab... they were going back home..."

"Yeah... because that's not fucking eerie at all, is it," I sighed, "so, what? The lab is weaponizing them or something?"

"Or something," Steve muttered, "come on, let's move."

"Don't have to tell me twice," I put the machete back on my back again and sat on the edge of the ridge.

"Hey?! What're you doing?" Lucas was quick to ask. I looked back up at him and gestured.

"It's a slope," I told him, "you can skid down. Or are we not going to the lab right now?"

"Well... but that's dangerous," he pointed out.

"Uh-huh but also, if we go back to my bike and Steve's car it's going to take a good thirty minutes and then another twenty on top of that to drive to the lab," I told him, "whereas, if we just hike through the forest, we'll be there in fifteen tops. So, I'm going down, you losers can join or not but if you go back to the vehicles, don't touch my bike or I'll cut little fingers off."
