I actually kind of feel bad for him now that I think about it.
"Promethium," Dustin corrected, "Prometheus is a Greek mythological figure, but whatever. All I'm saying is, it's probably being used to make something."
"Or power something," Robin added.
"Or it could by the by product or waste of creating or powering something," I offered, "and they're bringing it down here to destroy it or bury it."
"Seems like a waste of time though, no?" Robin asked.
"Tell that to the nuclear scientists," I shrugged, and she just let out a small considering hum.
"Actually, y/n, you could be onto something here. But maybe it's powering something like a nuclear weapon," Dustin bounced the idea back. Robin took a moment to consider it before nodding.
"Totally," she agreed.
That's not worrying at all.
A hidden Russian nuclear weapon in Hawkins?
Hmm...
"Walking towards a nuclear weapon. That's great," Steve muttered out sarcastically, "that'd be great. Just great."
"But if they're building something, why here?" Robin asked, "I mean—Hawkins. Seriously. Of all places."
You know, I ask the same about the people who decided that this was a good place for a town too...
Maybe there's something to unpack here.
"At the very best, we're a toilet stop on your way to Disneyland," Robin continued as Dustin and Steve hung back a little bit behind her, Erica and I, "but maybe that's it."
Before I could get too far, I was yanked back and I gave the pair a confused look, "what?"
"You think the Russians know?" Steve asked, "you know—"
"You mean about..." I didn't finish my sentence but gestured slightly.
We're talking about the lab. The demo-dogs. The Demogorgon. The... I hate to actually call it this... mind flayer. The upside down.
"They could," Dustin agreed.
"So it's connected?" Steve asked.
"On a stretch, maybe," I confirmed reluctantly.
"How?" he asked.
"I don't know, but it's—" Dustin replied, "it's—"
"Possible," the three of us all said in a dread filled unison.
Oh this isn't good.
This is not good at all.
"I'm sorry," Robin speaking up caught our attention and we all looked over to where she and Erica was a bit away from us now, "is there something you'd like to share with the class?"
The three of us shared a look and I just shrugged.
I'd tell them.
Might as well. They're basically involved now if this turns out to actually be the way that we think it could be in the worst possible way.
But before any of us could say anything, the sound of the radio in Erica's bag making that god awful static noise they make when they pick up a weak signal started followed by the sound of speaking. Quickly, we all hurried over and took to the floor as she pulled it out of her bag.
Course it was in Russian but... actually... it sounded annoyingly familiar.
"A trip to China sounds nice," Robin started to translate slowly, "if you tread lightly... it's the code."
