The Grapple Droideka was a melee version of the standard Droideka (#6) manufactured by the Colicoid Creation Nest. Instead of repeating blasters, they boasted powerful metal claws. They could also transform in a rolling state. Their armour could withstand lots of punishment, but their shields were weaker than standard Droidekas. Grapple Droidekas had red photoreceptors and stood 1.83m (6ft 4in) tall.
Grapple Droidekas defended the Trade Federation's occupation during the Battle of Naboo in The Theed Royal Palace.
