Once they were completely alone, Kate sat down on the coffee table still looking at Bella. There was a slight pause with neither sister wanting to be the first to address the elephant in the room.

"What's with Rose?" Kate finally asked Bella.

She chuckled, "Rosalie's always wanted a baby."

Kate nodded not really knowing what to say, "So..."

Bella cut her off, "I know what you're going to say. But Kate, it's a miracle or something. I love him."

"So I'm going to have a nephew."

What color was left in Bella's face flushed, "I don't know. It's just a guess. When I picture him, I see a boy."

"With or without red eyes?"

Bella winced, "We'll see."

"We will. You won't," Kate said simply.

"Kate, I can do this. I'm strong enough."

Kate shook her head, "You're not! I can see that and the thing isn't even coming out yet! I don't want you to die."

"I am a mom now, that's what we do. We give everything up for our kids."

"Even your life?"

Bella nodded. Kate studied her long and hard for a while. Bella fidgeted under her little sister's gaze. For as long as Kate had been alive, she had never seen Bella so sure of anything, not even in wanting to become a vampire or in marrying Edward. Bella was going to do this with, or without Kate there. She would be damned it she wasn't going to be there next to Bella 'till the very end.

Kate sighed, "Okay."

"Okay what?" Bella asked confused.

"If you're doing this, I'll be with you every step of the way. I promise."

Bella's face lit up and she grabbed Kate's hand, "Thank you."

Footsteps interrupted their moment. Jacob had returned from talking with Edward and he looked beyond pissed. He was glaring at both Bella and Kate. Just as quickly as he came up the stairs, Jacob turned around and went back down. Kate stood up to follow him outside.

Jacob paced back and forth in front of the Cullen's house.

"How could you be okay with this?" he all but shouted at her.

"Okay? You think I'm okay with this? That thing is killing my sister!"

He threw his hands up, "Then let's get it out."

"I'm not holding my sister down against her will. She's made her decision."

"Yeah, and you've made yours," he spat.

"Yeah, I have! If she's dying, I'm not going to waste the last few days I have with her fighting."

He snapped, "I'm not sticking around to watch that."

"Fine! Then go!"

Jacob looked shocked that she wasn't going with him. "And when this thing explodes? When the pack has to come here? What are you going to do?"

"I won't let them hurt my family."

"I thought I was your family too."

Kate didn't say anything but stood there staring at him. Jacob's labored breaths were full of anger at Kate, at Bella, and at Edward. He didn't know what to do but turned around and kicked his bike with all his strength into a nearby tree, trashing the bike. He gave Kate one last angry look and then shifted into a wolf before running into the forrest.

She slumped down on the foot of the stairs drained of all energy. The imprint had every fiber of her being telling her to go after him but she fought against it and sat there. She knew that this was going to implode around her but she couldn't bring herself to change her mind. She sat there and watched Jacob bound away, no doubt to tell the pack, and to bring them here. She knew that they couldn't, nor would they, hurt her but they sure as  hell could rip apart the vampires and they sure could kill Bella.

She didn't know how long she sat there but it was enough to make her butt go numb on the hard steps. Brushing her hands on her jeans, she stood up and went inside. She walked back into the room where Bella was to find that the vampires had already come back into the room. They all looked at Kate with a mixture of pity and thanks. She didn't say anything to them but instead turned around to go to their bathroom.

Once she was inside, she locked the door and rested her forehead against the wood paneling. Never in her wildest dreams did she imagine this happening to Bella. A somewhat selfish part of her wished that they never had moved to Forks making them blissfully ignorant of the supernatural world. Bella wouldn't be spawning a demon child and Kate wouldn't be hunted down for her powers should the Volturi find out. Then again, Bella and Kate wouldn't be happy in Jacksonville and she knew it.

Running over to the sink she quickly washed her face with some cold water. When she looked up into the mirror, she could have sworn that she had aged in just the few moments that she had been inside the Cullen's house. She closed her eyes and pictured her sister's frail form and winced when she imagined her lying dead with her vampire child standing over her.

She tried to imagine killing the child that killed Bella but she just couldn't. The little thing would be her niece or nephew, her blood. On top of that she couldn't bring herself to kill a child. Killing the vampires a few months ago was bad enough. She still had nightmares about them and what she did to them.

A knock on the door interrupted her thoughts. Pulling herself together she answered the door to see Rosalie standing there in front of her with a scowl on her face.

"You're dog is back," she told Kate.

Kate frowned, "Why?"

Rosalie gave her a slight smirk that caused Kate to furrow her brow, "Wait 'till you hear."

Kate followed Rosalie into the Cullen's sitting room where Bella was to see all of the vampires surrounding Jacob. He looked angry but, and it might have been the imprint talking, stronger. He stood up a little straighter and held his shoulders a bit further back.

"What's going on?" she asked the room.

Emmett snickered from the corner of the room, "You're boy here just left his pack."

"You did what?" Kate screeched.

Jacob flinched while the rest of the vampires laughed.
