Kate pulled up to the Cullen's house the next day and sat in the driveway just staring at the house.

There were three things that glued her to her seat and had her heart beating with fear.

She hadn't come running when Edward had texted her and she didn't know why. She knew she should've gone immediately but , she was scared. She was well aware of the fact that she had asked Edward to save her sister's life by changing her into a vampire (despite years of protest) but seeing Bella was a different story.

Then, there was the fact that Jacob was inside waiting for her. She could feel his presence nearby and she yearned to leap into his arms but she didn't know how he was processing all of this. He lost Bella that night too. He had seen his best friend die and transform. Despite all of the reassuring text messages he had sent her over the last few days, she could tell that he was still a little freaked out no matter how well he hid it. To add to his ever growing list of headaches was Seth's imprintation. She knew that this couldn't be easy for Jacob now having his pack bound to the Cullens, not only by Kate and Bella's bond, but now an even stronger bond that nothing could come between.

If she was being honest with herself, she was selfish and hadn't really been thinking about Seth at all. She loved him but was too consumed with exhaustion and seeing her sister's lifeless corpse to ponder the new imprint. She couldn't imagine how he felt. She could see how Renesmee could feel in the future but there was no way that she felt that way now. She was just a baby! Not that Seth would be gross or inappropriate. He would only want to protect her and keep her safe. And if, in the future, Renesmee didn't want him, he would settle for being just that: a friend.

To top it all off, she was curious about her niece. She wasn't sure how the vampire blood in her system would effect the child. Would she have red eyes? Would she be blood thirsty? Over the past few days she had come to terms with the girl but there were still questions on her mind. She hadn't seen the girl but for a minute on the night of her birth. To her own shame, she didn't even remember what the baby looked like. She had been so worried about saving Bella.

Steeling herself, Kate made herself get out of her Jeep and climb the stairs into the house. She reached for the door handle, but before she could open it Jacob materialized out of thin air and opened it for her. The two looked at each other for a few seconds before Jacob engulfed her in a tight hug, that she quickly returned.

"Are you okay?" he whispered into her hair.

Kate chuckled, "Me? What about you?"

Jacob pulled back and brought his hands to cup her face rubbing his thumbs along her cheek bones, "I'm good. Great, actually! Bella should be around in a little while."

"You mean she's not here?"

"No," he said shaking his head, "Edward took her away for a little while. He wanted to make sure she was safe to be around Nessie."

Kate frowned, "Nessie?"

This time, Jacob let out a bark of a laugh, "Don't tell Bella. Renesmee is just such a long complicated name."

"So you named my niece after the Loch Ness Monster?"

Jacob dropped his hands and shrugged, "Sounds about right."

Kate rolled her eyes but smiled nonetheless.

"How's Seth?"

It was Jacob's turn to roll his eyes, "Like anyone when they first imprint. He doesn't want to leave her side. He always wants to hold the kid or is standing right behind the person who is. He really is like a guard dog for her."
