Christmas Day had arrived and with it the laughter and feeling of one last hurrah. The snow was sticking to the ground for the first time that season which meant that tomorrow the Volturi would be in Forks. Tomorrow was the finale to story.
Kate was spending it at her dad's house like usual but this year there were a few more additions to their rag tag family. Sue, since she started dating Charlie, had brought along Seth and Leah. The later was not as thrilled as her brother. Seth bounced around the kitchen with Jacob stealing morsels of food before Sue could place them on the dinner table.
"Kate, grab the hot chocolate and put it on the coffee table," Charlie grunted at her while he was laden down with presents to sort out for everyone.
"Should've asked Jacob," she muttered under her breath.
From the kitchen, she could hear Jacob and Seth starting to laugh at her comment. Sometimes she cursed everyone's heightened senses of hearing.
She carried the tray from the kitchen and set it down on the coffee table like her father wanted. Leah sat giving her a pitying look from the couch. Kate flopped down next to her and sighed.
"Looks like we have to get used to the big happy family," Leah groaned.
Kate smiled at her, "For all of your complaining, I know you love it."
Leah didn't say anything for a moment but just stared at the Christmas tree in the corner of the room.
"You miss him don't you?" Kate asked her.
She didn't answer. Instead, she picked at a loose thread that was coming up from the couch. Leah rolled it between her fingers a few times before tearing it off with a snap.
"Yeah," she answered quietly.
Kate placed her hand on top of Leah's forearm, "I do too," she paused for a moment before continuing, "He'd be really proud of you, you know?"
Leah finally looked at Kate, "You think?"
"Please, you were Harry's favorite. You could have set him on fire and he would have still laughed and said 'that's my girl'."
A small smile reached the corner of Leah's mouth.
"Jacob's glad to have you too. He'd never say it but he is. We all are. Your family is here for you, more than you know."
Before Leah could even begin to think of a response, the doorbell rang and Charlie let out a loud cheer. He practically ran to the door and swung it open revealing Bella, Edward, and Renesmee.
"Merry Christmas! Come here kiddo," he greeted them before dragging Renesmee over to the tree with all of the presents.
"You like it?" he asked her, slightly nervous.
Renesemee laughed and nodded vigorously before kneeling down and grabbing one.
Kate stood up to greet her sister but when she gave her a hug, she paused looking at Bella's face. There was a crease between her brows and even though Bella was smiling at Kate, there was a tight, forced nature to it.
"What's wrong?" she asked her.
Bella shrugged, "Nothing new."
Kate knew that she was lying but didn't press the issue just then. She turned to Edward and gave him a "Merry Christmas." The couple made their way to the kitchen while Seth and Jacob came into the living room. Seth walked over to Renesmee and picked her up and swung her around.
"Merry Christmas!" he shouted.
Renesmee smiled, "Merry Christmas, Seth."
Jacob rolled his eyes, "Don't break the kid before she opens her presents."
