My life was falling apart. I was in debt, working a minimum wage paying job, and refusing to ask for help. I thought everything was over for me.
That is.... until he showed up.
Ben and Kelly walk up to their girlfriends. "Mel, do you mind if we steal them for a minute?" Kelly asks, earning confused looks from the three of them.
Melanie shakes her head. "No, go ahead."
They drag them away. "What's going on?" Rachel asks. Ben and Kelly shush her as they go to their hiding spot.
Devin smiles as they get Melanie alone and puts the ring in his pocket after kissing the box for good luck. He walks up to her and grabs her hand. "Babe," he says.
Melanie looks at him. "What's up?" she says. She notices that his arm was tense and his hand was shaking. "Are you okay? You're shaking."
Devin nods. "Yeah, I'm good. Can I show you something?" She nods as he leads them over to where Ben told him to go on the other side of the beach. He picks up a single rose and gives it to her. "For you."
Melanie smiles and blushes. "Thank you." She takes it from him. "What's this about?"
Devin leads them to where everything was set up. "Here we are."
Melanie smiles at the little set up. "You got this set up?"

Devin nods. "Yeah, I mean, I had some help, but I ran the show." He can practically feel Ben glaring daggers into his head as they were hiding behind some bushes, and it was not helping his nerves.
Melanie giggles at him. "I love it," she says. "What's this for?"
Devin takes a deep breath. "Okay, I feel like if I don't do this now, I'd get too scared to do it." He takes both her hands. "Mel, this last year has been like the perfect little fantasy. I always knew I was in it for the long haul as soon as I laid eyes on you." He takes another deep breath and squeezes her hands. "You love me for me, my heart, and you showed me what real love was. You make me feel like I've got the whole world in my hands." He chuckles as he feels himself getting more nervous. "There are so many things that I can say, right now, but I feel like if I say them, we're gonna be here a while." She laughs at him.
He takes another deep breath. "Remember when we moved in together, and we talked about our future?"
She smiles at him. "Yeah, of course I remember."
He takes the ring out of his pocket and gets on one knee. "How about we make it a reality?" He smiles at her. "Melanie Pham," he opens the box to reveal the ring, making her gasp, "will you marry me?"
Melanie felt tears forming in her eyes and stays silent for a bit. She nods, not being able to form words. Devin practically lights up when he sees her nod. "Yes?"
Melanie laughs through her tears. "Yes. Yes, of course, Devin."
Devin's face breaks out into a smile when he gets back on his feet. "Yes!" He picks her up and pulls her into a passionate kiss.
Everyone jumps out from the bush. "Yo, Book!" Kelly calls out.
"It's not official until you put the ring on!" Ben calls.
Devin realizes that he still had the ring in the box. "Oh, right," he mumbles when he pulls away. She laughs at him. He puts her down and takes her left hand. He takes her promise ring and slips the engagement ring on her finger.
She admires the ring as her tears continue flowing. "I love it," she says. She smiles up at him and sees that he had tears flowing, as well. "I love you so much."
He smiles at her through his own tears. "I love you more, baby." They meet for a passionate kiss, Mel's engagement ring glimmering in the light.
