It Started at the Diner- A Devin Booker Story

~February 6th~

Today, was officially the day. No, Devin wasn't proposing just yet (A/N-sorry!). It was Devin and Melanie's one year anniversary!

Conveniently enough, the vaccine finally came out to the public. Melanie had already gotten it since she was considered a healthcare worker. Devin was able to get the vaccine, as well, because of the amount of traveling the team does.

Also, let's catch everyone up. The games were back on. Devin was recently out for a few games because of a hamstring injury, but thanks to Melanie's amazing nursing skills, she was able to nurse him back to health and helped him through his PT. Sports organizations were officially allowing limited fans back into the arena, starting with the Super Bowl (A/N-we ain't ever getting outta this pandemic). Melanie was still doing clinical rotations and going to class. Luckily, she had the weekend off, so she is able to spend her anniversary with Devin. On top of that, Devin had the next couple of days off cuz of the super bowl. Okay, back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Melanie was already up early. She got a bit of studying done as she drank her coffee while Devin slept in a little longer. Once she was done, she headed to the kitchen to make breakfast. She decided on making chocolate chip waffles, Devin's favorite, with a side of eggs and turkey sausage. She also makes coffee for Devin and pours them both a glass of orange juice before putting it on the dining table.

Once she sets the table, she feels strong arms wrap around her waist. She smiles as she recognizes the cologne. "Good morning," she says.

Devin smiles as he leans down to rest his chin on her shoulder. "Good morning," he replies, laying a kiss on her cheek. He smiles against her cheek. "Happy anniversary, mamas."

Melanie blushes at him. "Happy anniversary, Pooka," she says. She turns around in his arms and wraps her arms around his neck before pulling him in for a kiss.

Devin pecks her lips a few times before pulling completely away. "A year really flew by for us," he mumbles.

Melanie nods as he rests her forehead on hers. "Definitely." They kiss again before Melanie stops him. "You hungry?"

Devin smirks at her as he takes a seat. "Yeah, but not for food." He laughs when she gives him a look. "I'm kidding. What's for breakfast?"

Melanie smiles at him. "Chocolate chip waffles, with eggs and sausage," she says. "I also made coffee."

Devin rubs his hands together as he looks excited. "Ooh, this smells good, babe." He leans over to her. "Thank you, babe." He kisses her.

She smiles at him. "You're welcome." They kiss again before enjoying their breakfast.

They finish breakfast, and Melanie goes to take their plates, but Devin stops her. "I got it, babe," he says.

Melanie looks at him. "You sure?" she asks.

Devin nods. "Yeah, you already made breakfast, and you're on your feet a lot. Go ahead and relax."

Melanie smiles at him. "Thank you."

Devin takes the plates and puts them in the sink. Before he starts washing the dishes, he texts Schneider.

Devin shuts his phone off and starts washing the dishes. Once the dishes are done, his phone goes off and sees that Schneider responded to him.
