It was 8 in the morning when Devin wakes up with Melanie's arms around his neck. He was laying on top of her and hugging her waist as he had his head in her chest. He looks up at her when he feels her rubbing his head. He smiles at her. "Morning, mama," he says in his morning voice.
Melanie smiles back at him, chills running down her spine at the sound of his voice. "Morning, Pooka," she replies and kisses his forehead.
"How'd you sleep?" He lets go of her waist as he lays his head on his pillow.
"Pretty good," she says, turning over to reach for her phone. "What about you?"
He sighs blissfully. "Same here," he replies. "Your chest is pretty comfy." He smirks at his statement as he grabs his phone as well. She gives him a look and slaps his arm, making him hiss and hold his arm in pain. "Damn, ma, you got hands."
She rolls her eyes and changes the subject. "Okay, what's the plan for today?"
Devin thinks about the day. "Well, I have the 3-point shootout, but that's not till tonight. So, I say we get out of bed and go get some breakfast."
Melanie smiles at him. "Sounds good to me. What are we doing after that?"
He smiles back and leans on his elbow. "We come back here and enjoy our time together before we have to go."
She sighs. "That sounds really good." They were still pretty tired from the flight since they landed in Chicago pretty late last night. They KO'ed at almost midnight, and Devin needed all the rest he can get before the contest tonight.
He chuckles at her. "Alright, well, why don't we get ready to go?" He kisses her cheek. "We gotta have enough time to get ready for tonight." He starts getting out of bed.
She nods at him. She gets out of bed and goes to grab her clothes as Devin does the same. She then heads to the bathroom to give Devin some space to change and so that she can brush her teeth. She finishes brushing her teeth, and Devin walks in with her phone in hand while it was ringing. "Who's calling?" she asks him.
Devin hands her the phone. "Your brother," he replies.
She takes the phone and sees that it says 'Big Brother💙'. She slides to answer the call. "Hey, Andrew," she says.
"Hey, Mel," Andrew replies, sounding excited. "I heard you were in Chicago."
Melanie looks confused as she puts the phone on speaker and starts putting her contacts in. "I am. Why, what's up?"
"I'm in Chicago, too."
Melanie jumps after hearing those words. "Ow," she says as she accidentally pokes her eye and drops the contact that was on her finger. Devin looks at her through the mirror after rinsing his mouth. "What?" she says. The two start feeling around the sink to find the contact.
"I'm here, too. I got tickets to the All-Star games, so I'm here with Mia, Jacob, and Chase." Mia was his wife, Jacob was his 9-year-old stepson from Mia's previous relationship, and Chase was Andrew's son who was 14 months old.
"Oh, that's cool." She feels a tap on her shoulder and sees that Devin has the dried up contact in the palm of his hand, and she takes it from him. "Uhm, what are you guys doing right now?" She cleans and softens the contact with the solution.
"Well, we were gonna go get breakfast, and we heard you were in Chicago with your boyfriend, so we were wondering if you guys wanted to join."
Devin's heart stops at the question, and Melanie looks at him for confirmation. He wanted to say no since he was scared to meet her brother, but he agrees anyway. "Yeah, we're in." She goes back to putting her contacts in.
