Always a Memory

                           Maya's pov
I stand outside the hall in tears.

This is what him and his mother want to do...

"What is wrong my lady?" Lola comes running and helps me up.

"I overheard everything...Ethan wants to make it seem like Alistair is the traitor..to give the king a good reason to marry me off to Ethan.." I cry and touch my stomach.

I won't let this happen baby..I will protect you and your father..

"What do we do princess...??" Lola asks.

"While grandma is still alive..we are safe. Knowing how evil Ethan and his mother could be..they will try to harm her." I admit.

Lola gasps.

"We have to protect her and give enough time for Alistair to come back and the king to investigate this matter." I say.

"Should we try to go find the letters?" Lola suggests and I shake my head.

"Ethan was suspicious last time. If we go back there, he will definitely find it out. He is on high alert now because of what has happened these few days." I sigh.

"Don't let Ethan find out about my pregnancy. Make sure the doctor doesn't tell a single soul." She nods and leaves.

I have to find out who I really am...

I wait for Grandmother to come back to her room and she finally comes.

"I'll help you Grandmother." I help her back to her bed.

"My darling what's wrong? You seem worried." She holds my hands.

"Who am I really..??" I ask her.

"I don't know anything honey, but I know who does...the old maid who worked for your family. Sadly she was let go once you came here." She tells me.

She was deliberately fired...all planned...

"Where can I find her..???" I ask impatiently.

She dismisses everyone else and hands me a paper with an address on it.

"Make sure no one finds out or she will be killed." She smiles at me.

"Thank you." Tears start to roll down my cheeks.

"I know it's a lot to deal with right now my dear. I will make sure nothing happens to you while I am alive." She reassures me.

"Grandma...I have good news for you." I hold her hand and place it on my stomach.

"You will have a grandchild." I tell her and cries in excitement.

"Even though I probably won't be here when she/he is born..I already know I will love her/him so much." She starts to cough.

"Take your medicine grandma.." I tell her and she nods.

"I will leave now Grandmother..take good care of yourself." I bow to her and leave to that address.

I make sure I am covered at the palace and go see that old maid.

I finally make it to the address and I knock.

"H-Hello..??" I hear an older lady ask.

"I-I need to talk to you..please let me in..." I beg and she lets me in.

She looks at me carefully and her eyes widen.

She quickly pulls me in and locks the door.

"You finally found out about the necklace.." she says with a smile.

How did she know who I was?

It is like she read my mind and handed me some tea.

"Your eyes are just as beautiful as your dear mother...I remember it as if it was yesterday..." she sits down.

"Please tell me who she was.." I beg.

"Your mother was a very nice woman. She was the doctor who took care of your father's mother. That is how they met. Your father was a scholar. They were both very clever. Your parents knew about Prince Ethan. Right before they died they made sure to send me away so Prince Ethan wouldn't find me." She sighs.

"What about the necklace...I had an image in my head about a woman holding that necklace and handing it to me." I explain.

"It was your mother. She gave you that necklace. I don't know exactly what the necklace was for...but if she gave it to you...it must hold something important." She holds my hand.

"The Queen ordered your family to be killed because she loved your father, but your father loved your mother very much that he denied her. She had no other option but to marry the king instead." She says with a very sad tone.

She killed my family...!?

I tear up.

"You cannot take revenge right now. It is not the right time." she informs me.

I nod.

"If you can find that necklace and bring it to me..I will figure it out for you as to what the necklace is for. I owe your family for saving my life. I will use my life to protect you at all costs." she caresses my cheek.

"Thank you." I hug her.

"Prince Ethan was ordered by his mother to kill your family. It was covered up by your own mother saying your parents were traitors. I don't know why he saved you, but it was definitely not any good intention." She admits.

They will pay for killing my family...

"It's time to go my darling. Take care of yourself." She says holding my cheek.

"When this is over..I'll make sure to bring you back. I want you to be the godmother of my child." I say as I hold my stomach and she cries tears of joy.

She nods.

"I would love to. Now go." She let's me out the back.

"Be safe." I bow and leave.

I need to get that necklace.
