Always a Memory

I wake up with a sharp pain.

"Princess! You're awake." I see a man bow.

"Alistair sent you didn't he." he nods.

well..he saved my life

"What do we do with those 2?" he asks me.

I look down and see my wound.

"The baby is fine princess." Lola holds my hand.

Thank God!

"They think I am dead. Send them back to the prison and announce my death. I will be right behind to expose them and that woman." He nods and leaves with them.

"Let's go Lola." I walk slowly to the carriage.

Alistair's pov
I haven't received an answer since I sent them to protect Maya.

She has to be okay...

After what felt like hours waiting for a message, I notice my men coming back.

"What happened?! How is Maya?" I ask impatiently.

"I'm sorry..the princess and your unborn child...a-are..gone." They say and head to the hall to announce her death.

G-Gone....??!! Did Veronica do this!?

I break down.

I head to the hall where everyone hears the news of Maya's death.

"Please tell me it's a lie..!!" My grandmother says in tears.

"I am very sorry..." Caleb says.

"Who did it?!" My father says angrily

"We don't know your majesty..we found her-.." I don't let them finish.

"Enough! Go!" I say angrily.

I see Veronica grinning from afar.

She must have done something

I go back to my room and lay down thinking of the memories I had with Maya.

I should have fought harder...She was right..I let her control me and now I couldn't even protect the love of my life!

I grab my dagger.

"What are you doing?!" Caleb comes in and grabs the knife.

"I failed in protecting her and our child...I want to be with her.." I stare blankly at the ceiling.

"Just wait and see. Let your father know to meet me at the prison. Just don't tell Princess Veronica. Just you and your father." He says and I just nod.

Maya's pov

Lola helps me hide in the prison without being seen by the King and Alistair.

It ends here.

Veronica slips in the prison to talk to both of them.

"You finished the job. Good. I brought some men that will help you escape. I will make sure no one finds you." She says grinning.

"This isn't some kind of trick is it?!" the Queen asks suspiciously.

"It's not like you have a choice." she sighs.

They hesitantly nod.

"So this is the type of person you are Princess Veronica?" the King says from the side.

"Y-Your majesty..." She kneels.

"This is what my enemy does? Kill my son's wife along with our bloodline?!" He yells.

"I want them both executed tomorrow morning." Alistair says clenching his fists.

"It was them! They made me help!" Veronica starts lying and accusing them.

Bad liar

I sigh.

"They said it was your orders." I come out.

"My love! you're alive!" he runs to me.

I give him that death glare and he doesn't touch me.

Hmph

She starts to shake.

"H-How are you alive...?!" She asks shocked.

"Why so surprised to see me?" I ask.

"N-Nothing..." She tries to leave but they arrest her immediately.

We go back to the hall.

"I can have your head cut off because of this Princess Veronica." The King says angrily.

"Y-You can't! My father will kill all of you!" She yells.

The King sends out a message to her father about the incident.

She is put in prison until the next day.

Her father quickly comes to the hall and so do we.

"Don't kill my daughter!" He pleads.

"She is in my kingdom. Her identity does not matter here. If she breaks the law, she is sentenced to death." He says harshly,

"Please don't! You can't do that! You watched her grow up!" He yells to the king.

"I called you here for you to take her away. For the sake of our old friendship, I do not wish to harm you or your daughter." He bows to him.

"She can come back anytime she wants, as long as she behaves and follows the rules." Alistair says annoyed.

"But, if I am going to let you go, we have to be allies. Old Friend." the king smiles and sends out the agreement.

"Thank you Old Friend." He smiles happily and makes his daughter kneel.

"Thank you Uncle!" She says in tears.

"You can be here, but you have to behave." He says to her and she nods.

She kneels to me.

"Since I am fine, I will forgive you. Next time..I won't be so merciful." I say harshly.

She gulps hard and nods.

Good

"I am so sorry.." I pat her shoulder.

"We are now friends. If you need me, come see me." I leave them there and go to my room to rest.

"B-Baby..." I hear Alistair behind me.

"What do you want?" I sit up.

"I want to marry you again.." He sits down next to me and kisses me.

I push him away and I accidentally hurt my wound.

"Ouch!" I yell out.

He lays me down.

"I'll take care of you from now on...even if you don't forgive me." He holds my hand and looks at me with so much affection and regret.

Fine..I'll give in.

"Fine..Fine..I forgive you." I smile.

His face brightens up.

"You hear that baby? Mama forgave me." He says happily.

Suddenly the baby kicks.

"Did you see that?!" I nod.

"Thank you." He gives me another kiss.

Finally my happy ending..
