I don't share the same religious views as my parents

I need some advice on a problem I have. It affects my family, friends, and sanity.

I was born into a Mormon family. My dad was born in and my mom was converted. I believed it all when I was younger and I chose to be baptized into the church at 8, but now that I feel I've developed my own thoughts and opinion about life, I fully believe I am an atheist.

I've told a few of my friends, but none of the ones I've told are Mormon. I want to tell my other friends, but I'm afraid they'll tell my family. I don't want to disappoint them, or my family, and I'm terrified how they will react. I'm not a different person. I'm the same me I've been my entire life. My parents don't suspect anything, but I'm naturally argumentative and opinionated, and I can barely hold it in at church and at home.

I feel like I am living a lie, no matter how cliche that sounds.

So here lies the issue. I can either outright tell my family, regardless of their reaction, which will most likely be them trying to convert me until I'm 18; or not tell them until I move out and be forced to fake belief like I have been until then.

What do I do?

Dear Anonymous,

I think that you should do what you think is best. I can't really give you much advice for I have different views as you also but I will not fight you for it. Let me ask you this though. Have you don't everything in your power to not drift away from God? Well Mormons still believe in God right or they worship someone else? o.0 Idk.. I'm christian and I should know this but honey I will tell you that I am not the wisest christian on the block lol but anyway If you have and you still don't believe on what they believe then i don't think that you should just keep this in. I think you should tell them no matter what. Yes, it's going to disappoint them and hurt them but what else can they do? Unless you really don't want to hurt them? If you keep this all in and don't say how you feel, are you going to feel like you did the right decision after or are you going to feel unhappy? I can tell you are unhappy as it is and I think you should feel happy.

I think that everyone has their own views when it comes to religion and that's okay. You can be something while your parents are something else. I'm the only christian in my family and the rest are either catholic or baptist. Religion or religious views does not affect a families bond and if it does... than what kind of family was that in the first place?

      Hope this helps,

Alex (:
