08. peanut butter and jealous

Start from the beginning

"I know. I've hacked into it from time to time." Felicity stated.

"Rude." Cisco commented, walking over to them.

"And 'your team'? Buddy, you work for us." Spencer teased, receiving a playful glare from Barry.

"Like we've said," Caitlin began, moving on, "It's wonderful to see you again Felicity. I'm just wondering how much of our operation she needs to know about."

"I'm really good at keeping secrets." Felicity reassured.

"Yeah, Felicity works with the Arrow." Barry added.

"Sweet!" Cisco sang out.

"And you apparently are not," Felicity chastised Barry.

Caitlin and Spencer shared amused glances as Cisco went into fangirl mode yet again.

"Now it's all making sense. You know who the Arrow is." He turned to Barry. "Wait do you know who the Arrow is?"

Barry shook his head awkwardly but Spencer wasn't letting him off easy. "Oh, he does and he wouldn't tell me. Good luck getting it out of him."

Barry sighed not knowing what to say or do anymore.

"Let's just say my team has a similar set up, but with more pointy objects." Felicity told them.

"Welcome, Ms. Smoak." Dr. Wells' voice sounded from the hallway.

"Dr. Wells? The Dr. Wells?"

"Please, call me Harrison, Felicity."

"Oh you know who I am?" she asked.

"Ranked second in the national informative technology competition at age 19, graduated M.I.T. with a masters degree in cyber security and computer sciences. I know who you are." He answered. "I keep an eye out for promising talent in scientific fields. It's what brought me Cisco, Caitlin, and Spencer and I foresaw great things from you."

"Speaking of great things," Barry said, nodding to the other room where the treadmill was located. "Want to see something cool?"

~

"How fast can he run?" Felicity asked as the four of them observed Barry on the treadmill.

"He hasn't reached his top speed yet, theoretically speaking." Dr. Wells answered.

"So, is he really okay?"

Caitlin nodded, "His heart rate is within normal range, for him."

"No, I mean, the lighting changed him. Do any of you really know how much?"

"We know a fair amount." Cisco answered, slightly hesitant.

Despite getting to know Barry pretty well, Spencer really didn't know all that much about how the effects of the lightning were really affecting him. She'd have to ask him about that later.

"If everything about him is sped up, is he going to age faster?" Felicity continued to ask questions. "What would happen if he ran too fast? I mean, would he just be running, and then, poof, he's dust in a red costume?"

Spencer smiled lightly at Felicity's- albeit humorous- concern for Barry's wellbeing. But it did leave an unsettling feeling in her stomach. She also noticed how Barry was so eager to show Felicity his powers, like he was trying to impress her. She honestly has no good reason to be jealous but for some reason she kind of was. It was crazy. Barry had these insane feelings for Iris and it's not like she had some claim over him. Barry was allowed to be excited to catch up with a friend. She was being ridiculous.

"Everything we do here at STAR Labs is to protect Barry Allen," Dr. Wells reassured her, "Trust us, Felicity, he is in very good hands here."

"Want to see how fast I can run backwards?" Barry called out.

All of their heads turned to watch Barry only to see him crash once again into the boxes they had set up.

Noticing Felicity cringe, Spencer said, "Don't worry. He heals quickly too."

Not long after, Felicity and Barry left to go to Jitters. Spencer decided to go home and make herself something for dinner and spend the rest of her night watching Netflix. While she waited for her water to boil for her ramen, she got a call from Iris.

"Hey, what's up?"

"Hey, Spence. Nothing much. Are you free tonight?"

"Um, it depends on why you're asking."

Iris chuckled. "It's trivia night at Jitters and I know how much of a nerd you are about trivia."

Spencer laughed. It was true; she did love her trivia.

"A bunch of us are going to be there." Iris added.

Spencer furrowed her eye brows. "Like who?"

"Well, me, Eddie, Barry and his friend Felicity."

Spencer sighed, "Well you can count me out."

"What, why?"

"Iris, I really don't like it when I get stuck in a room with just you and Eddie. Now, this sounds like a double date and I really don't want to be the fifth wheel."

"Oh come on, it'd be fun!" Iris insisted. "Wait, you're not jealous are you? Because last time we talked you were pretty adamant about not liking Barry that way."

"And I don't! I just don't want to crash your date."

"Well it's settled then. My next mission in life is to find you a boyfriend."

Spencer groaned but there was still a smile on her face. "Yeah, good luck with that."

Iris laughed. "Well Miss Debby Downer, you have fun with your wild night of sitting on the couch watching tv."

"You know me so well."

After hanging up the phone with Iris, Spencer went back to cooking her ramen and sighed. She had sort of told a small lie when she said she didn't like Barry. Not that there were major feelings there but she was a little jealous if she was being honest. But next to Barry, Iris was the one person she couldn't talk to about the new romantic developments in her life. She thought about Iris setting up a double date with Barry and Felicity and that unsettling feeling came back. God, it was so frustrating. Why couldn't she start liking someone she actually had a shot with?

Once she was finished with her ramen noodles, she poured them into a bowl and settled herself on the couch. She selected a random episode of Friends to watch before getting another call. This time it was Caitlin.

"What's the gist, scientist?"

"Spencer how quickly can you get to STAR Labs?"

"Why? What's wrong?"

"A dangerous weapon was stolen and apparently it can really hurt Barry."

At the news of Barry being in danger, a differently kind of feeling fluttered in her stomach. "I'll be there soon."

She sighed, looking at her bowl of soup. She'd never be able to relax anymore.

Author's Note: Not my best work, but it's only the first half of the episode! The next will be better, including more Spencer and Barry. Also I was planning on doing more scenes with Barry as the center where Spencer isn't necessarily there. Like, the whole story focuses on Spencer's sort of POV or scenes but I'm going to try to give you more insight into how Barry is feeling.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed. I'd really love it if you could comment your thoughts. Feedback is much appreciated. Thanks for all the love guys!
