There were a lot of things going on in Spencer Hathaway's life in present time. If you had told her about those events a year ago, she'd call you crazy. She'd find the idea of metahumans insane, let alone becoming close to one in particular. She'd also never expect her oldest and closest friend to be one too. Then, she'd never believe Dr. Harrison Wells- her boss, her mentor, her pseudo father figure- for the last five years would be the cause of all of this chaos. And intentionally. And to add to it, the person who destroyed Barry Allen's life by killing his mother.

When Barry had told her about his suspicions the other night, she had told him he was delusional- that maybe Lightning Psychosis was real. She fought against him but then he explained what he knew. He told her Joe had been suspicious of Wells practically since the beginning. He'd even enlisted Cisco to reinvestigate the crime scene from all those years ago. And that night, journalist Mason Briggs had gone missing, just after declaring his weariness of the scientist. And Barry had reason to believe Wells was behind it; that he was the Reverse Flash.

She asked Barry to take her home after absorbing the information- she had to get back before Caitlin and Cisco noticed her absence. He asked if she wanted to talk about what he was telling her, but she shook her head, saying she needed time to think it all over. Part of her didn't want to believe it but she knew Barry wouldn't go around making heinous accusations like this if he didn't whole-heartedly believe it. But it was Dr. Wells, the man who gave her a job straight out of college and made her feel worth something. He helped her achieve a goal her own parents never believed him and she had always been grateful for that. She admired him and he's always respected her. But it turns out it was all just a big act. And that hit her hard.

The following morning, Barry had asked her to meet him in his lab at CCPD. She'd told Caitlin and Cisco she'd be meeting Iris for coffee- Barry didn't want them to know yet, which added more confusion to the mess she was facing since he had told her but not them. But she honored his wishes and came alone. And now she was seated at his desk, her legs on the chair, knees bent against her chest with her arms wrapped around them, listening to Barry and Joe discuss Wells.

"All right, this is everything that we know about Harrison Wells," Barry announced, revealing a hidden bulletin board to the two of them, "Which is actually not a lot."

"Didn't you read a whole book about him?" Joe asked, looking over the articles and photographs on the board.

Barry nodded. "Yeah, 600 pages, and the big takeaway is, he's enigmatic."

Spencer observed the board and smiled sadly when she noticed the "selfie" Barry had taken of Team Flash weeks earlier. She knew the emotion she was supposed to be feeling for Wells if these suspicions were true was anger. But instead, her heart ached in sadness as if she was mourning the loss of a friend, which in some ways she was.
