"He could run faster than the speed of sound but he still wasn't fast enough to close the distance between them."
Spencer Hathaway had a good life. Not incredibly noteworthy. Not utterly horrible. Just good. Then Barry Allen was struck by lighting...

Trivia night at Jitters was going well. Barry and Felicity were carrying a winning team, leaving Iris and Eddie to just throw in the occasional answer, which were usually wrong and corrected by the genius pair. Iris didn't mind though. She enjoyed watching Barry and Felicity's dynamic.
"I knew you two would make a good team." She commented after they had earned more points for their table.
Barry nodded, but he could tell where his best friend was getting at.
"So, Felicity, what do you do?" Eddie asked the blonde.
"I work in computer sciences at Queen Consolidated." She answered.
"Really?" Felicity nodded.
"Do you have a boyfriend in Starling City?" questioned Iris.
"Um, no. No, there is no one." Felicity told her, slightly hesitant.
After that, Eddie and Felicity excused themselves from the table and Iris gave Barry a pointed look.
He squinted his eyes in confusion. "What?"
"Dude!" Iris explained, punching his arm from across the table.
"Dude? Wha-?" Barry laughed.
"Are you still gonna tell me she's not into you? Look at that dress!" Iris explained, "And when I asked her the boyfriend question, she froze."
"Yeah, you were particularly sly with that one." Barry noted, sarcastically.
"Felicity is smart, nice and pretty. She's perfect for you." Iris went on. "So, what are you waiting for, Barry?"
Her friend looked down at the table, not sure what to say.
"Wait, is there someone else?" Iris asked.
Barry's eyes widened at the question, and sputtered awkwardly. Normally in this situation his mind with jump to Iris but for the first time in years, she wasn't the one who popped into his head. It was the pretty blonde girl who worked at STAR Labs, with the infectious laugh and who smells of vanilla and- why, why was he thinking about her- his friend- like that? He shook his head and made eye contact with Iris.
"No, there's no one else."
Soon after that, Felicity and Eddie made their way back to the table and trivia night went on for a few more rounds. That was until Eddie's phone beeped, and the look on his face made Barry's stomach sink.
"Someone spotted Snart. I've got to go." He told them, getting up from his chair and pulling on his jacket.
Barry shared a look with Felicity, before doing the same. She followed him out the doors of Jitters.
"I'll cover for you."
"What are you gonna say?"
"I usually tell people Oliver's at a night club, with a girl or nursing a hangover."
