"He could run faster than the speed of sound but he still wasn't fast enough to close the distance between them."
Spencer Hathaway had a good life. Not incredibly noteworthy. Not utterly horrible. Just good. Then Barry Allen was struck by lighting...

It had been only a few days since Barry had kissed Spencer. And in those few days, Spencer had gained a lot of XP for her avoidance skill. It hurt her too much to even think about Barry. She didn't know what she'd do if she saw him- and she hadn't. Not since the other night.
Realistically she realized that she couldn't avoid him forever. At the end of the day he was one of her closest friends and there were bigger things going on than the problems of their love life. He needed her right now, and as much as she wished she didn't, she needed him too.
But that didn't stop her from regulating her visits to STAR Labs the last couple of days. She always arrived when she was sure Barry was at work. Then she'd leave as soon as an emergency came up that needed The Flash involved. Both Caitlin and Cisco questioned her behavior but she chalked it up to anxiety about Wells and Eddie's safety. That was also another bonus- she'd somehow learned how to lie to her best friends. Part of her hated that skill, though.
She found herself spending a lot of alone time her apartment again, leaving her with only her thoughts. She always pushed away any thought of Barry, obviously. And of course, Eddie was constantly on her mind, her worry weighing heavy on her shoulders. She wondered about Ronnie and how he was doing with his training with Stein. And she also thought about Roy again, which was another onslaught of pain.
For the first time since learning about his death did she begin to think about the fact she wasn't the only one affected by the tragedy. That added guilt to her slate of emotions, wishing she would have come to her senses before. That occurrence led to what she was going that night; she was hugging her knees to her chest and calling Felicity Smoak.
The ex-IT girl answered the phone on the last ring- Spencer had almost thought she wouldn't answer at all- and when she did, she didn't sound at all like herself.
"Spencer?" Her voice asked, a depressed energy surrounding her tone.
Spencer let out a large sigh, realizing Team Arrow had probably taken the loss as bad, if not worse, as she had, "Hi Felicity."
"Hi..." Felicity hesitated, confusion drifting to her tone, "Is something wrong. It isn't really a good time for us here."
Spencer bobbed her head up and down, even though she was aware the other blonde couldn't see it. "Yeah- well, no, I mean," She chuckled sadly, "Things aren't really great here either. But I was just calling to say, I, uh...heard the news about Roy?" She flinched as she heard the sound a Felicity's breath hitch. She bit her lip for a few seconds before continuing, "I saw it on the news the night it happened and I took it pretty hard. I can only imagine how you all-"
"Oh, my God," Felicity's seemingly guilty voice sighed, interrupting her, "I wish I had called you soon."
"No, Felicity, I understand. Of course I understand. It was probably a really hard thing for you-"
