"You know that red streak that everyone's been seeing?"
She did not like where this was going. "Uh huh."
"Well, I'm trying to convince Singh to let me start a task force to put a stop to him."
Her eyes practically bulged out of her head. Barry had not mentioned this. "What? Why?"
"He's a menace to the city. He appears in and out of crime scenes as if he's magic. We need to figure out what his motive is and odds are, it isn't good."
"Okay, wait, what does this have to do with a favor?"
"I thought maybe you could help me convince Singh? He really likes you and it'd probably help my case."
Oh, God he was giving her that sad puppy dog look that used to get her when he asked her to look over evidence when she technically wasn't on duty. He wasn't getting her this time, as much as it pained her to shoot him down. "I'm sorry, Eddie, but I can't help you."
The disappointed look on his face devastated her. "Why not?"
Think, Spencer, think.
"Because we both know that Iris supports him. And helping you would mean I'm choosing sides. I've got to remain Switzerland."
Eddie sighed. "Yeah, that's a fair point."
Clutch, Spencer, clutch.
She wanted to offer another apology, but Singh's voice interrupted her.
"Detective Thawne, you wanted to speak to me?" he asked the blond.
Eddie nodded standing up. He turned back to Spencer, "I've got to go, it was nice having lunch with you."
Spencer nodded, standing up and giving him another tight hug. "I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help. But thank you for the gift."
He smiled as he pulled away. "It was no problem. Happy early birthday, Spence."
They shared one last look before he made his way into Singh's office. She began gathering the trash from their lunch to throw away. She glanced back at the captain's office to find him and Eddie in a heated discussion, causing her to cringe. God, she really dodged a bullet with that one.
"Hey, Spencer." Another voice greeted.
She looked up and found Barry walking towards her with a small smile on his face. Her eyes lit up, "Hi! How was your meeting with Oliver?"
At the mention of the hooded vigilante, Barry's smile fell. "Can we talk about that later?" Her eyes narrowed in question, but nodded in agreement anyway, not wanting to push him. His eyes lingered over to Eddie's desk where her gift was laying. "Is that the Hunger Games?"
"Yup, my favorite book series." She told him. "Eddie and Iris got me the set for my birthday."
He nodded, about to question further when Joe walked up to them. "Hey you two. What brings you here, Spencer?"
The blonde smiled at the man. "Oh, I was just having lunch with Eddie. It was sort of an early birthday thing."
Barry tried to hide the slight jealously he felt, desperately wishing he could have spent lunch with her. It surely beat the 'training session' he had with Oliver.
Joe's eyes widened slightly, reaching into his jacket pocket to retrieve a small envelope. "That reminds me, in case I forget, I got you a little something."
Spencer's bottom lip quivered slightly as she smiled, once again thankful she had such amazing people in her life. She took the envelope from him, beginning to open it. "You guys are all seriously too sweet."
