16 - He Arrives
APHMAU REMAINED SHOCKED as she stared at the man in front of her. She didn't even bother thinking how coincidental it was that she had a dream of him only an hour or two before he arrived. "Are you okay?" he smiled, not emphasising the least bit of sorrow in his tone.
Her mom popped up behind him. "Surprise, mija! Say hi to your Papá! He's changed!" Silvanna cheered, showing jazz hands.
"He isn't my father." Aphmau mumbled through gritted teeth, her fists clenched and her turning knuckles white.
"What was that?" he asked, his voice going down an octave and sounded gruff and harsh.
"Hello, Father." she deadpanned, giving him a cold, forced, and fake smile.
"I see you missed me." James spat sarcastically, rubbing his black boots on the welcome mat as he stomped inside, not bothering to pay any attention to the mud he was tracking into the newly-cleaned house.
"Jameson!" Silvanna hissed, slapping his elbow with the back of her hand, slamming the door shut, and chasing after him, giving Aphmau a cold glare and nodded her head in the direction of Aaron, mentally telling her he should leave.
"Aaron, I'm sorry, I think you should go, as much as I want you to stay, I think my mom wants you to." Aphmau sighed.
"Are you sure you don't want me to stay? I don't care if your mom doesn't like me, I already know she doesn't," he stated. "I know you have a lot to say right now."
Aphmau glanced up at his tall figure, looking him dead in the eye. "What gave it away?" she placed her hands on her hips and tilted her head slightly.
"Whenever someone talks bad to you, you always have a snarky comeback," he smirked. "But whenever you don't say your comeback, you're too busy thinking about something else to even bother being sassy."
"Sometimes I feel like you know me a little too well." she rolled her eyes.
"Come on, let's go up to your room and talk." he gestured to the stairs. Maybe Aphmau was wrong about him not knowing how to make her feel better.
"Okay. Thanks for this, Aaron. Thank you for everything you did today." she gave him a half smile that had more emotion in it than a full smile.
"I know I'm a fricking amazing friend, but there's no need to get all mushy, Aph." he joked.
They began to walk up the stairs when a voice stopped them. "I didn't know you had a boyfriend, Aphie." James scowled at Aaron.
"I don't." she replied as she shrugged, nudging Aaron slightly to continue walking back up the stairs.
"You'll be grounded, young lady, if I ever see you with a boyfriend." James snapped.
Aphmau rolled her eyes and opened the door to her room for Aaron to go inside.
"Phew, I thought I'd never be gone from him." Aphmau huffed whilst snaking her hand through her soft, black hair.
"How are you feeling?" Aaron questioned, placing the back of his warm hand on her forehead.
"Aphmau, your fever seems to have vanished," he smiled as if he just solved an unsolvable mystery. "Probably from me and my killer chef skills." he smirked.
"Yup," she responded. "It was definitely that."
They stared into each other's eyes for a while, not talking. The peace was calming. Their faces began to draw near each other. Aphmau looked down at Aaron's lips, licking her own. Aaron broke the gap and placed his lips on hers, completely forgetting that neither of them shut Aphmau's door.
"Aphmau, you lied to me." a harsh male voice said calmly.
Aph and Aaron jumped, pulling away from the kiss.
"And," Aphmau's father said, pointing his index finger up at Aaron, his other hand clutching onto a red solo cup that was no doubt filled with some sort of alcohol that Silvanna didn't know he had. "If," he continued slowly, aproaching Aaron with no haste in mind. "I ever see you near my daughter again, I will not hesitate to call the sheriff of this town, who is someone I know very well." he put emphasis on the word 'very'.
"Now," James hissed, a sick and twisted grin trapped on his old face. "Get the hell out of my house or I will call the police!" he shouted, moving his index finger to the exit of Aphmau's room.
Aphmau sighed as Aaron made his way out of her room and out of sight. Once she heard the door shut, she looked back at her 'father'. "I've changed my mind," he stated. "If I see any boy in this household other than myself that you know, you will be grounded until the end of high school."
Jameson shook the solo cup around, swishing the alcohol inside of it before taking a swig of whatever it was. He wobbled over to the stairs, balancing on the wall in case he got to dizzy and needed support.
Aphmau didn't know what her mother was thinking when she said he was a changed man, but she definitely wasn't thinking properly.
