Connor's POV
I visited her every day. I would talk to her, tell her jokes, and tell her how much I missed her. I would always do this at night when nobody was around. I only wanted her to hear me. I wanted it to be just us. Even if she never moved and the only sounds were my voice and the sounds of the machines working to keep her in a healthy stable condition, I would still stay there with her for hours.
It stayed this way. I would always go to visit her when we could be alone. The others always asked if I wanted to visit her because they didn't know I was. I think Oreon was the only one that knew. He never asked me about it, so I assumed he had figured it out.
One night I was talking with her and I heard something behind me. I spotted Oreon. He waved at me.
"Can I come in?" He asked. I nodded, knowing there was no point in turning him away. He sat down in the chair next to me. We stayed silent for a long time. "I don't understand how this doesn't drive you insane. Every night talking to her, and she doesn't even move. It would kill me." Oreon said.
"I have hope that she's listening." I said.
"Connor, you're the craziest android I've ever met." He said.
"I can live with that." I replied. He smiled a little. We both stayed quiet for another long period of time.
"She looks so peaceful, doesn't she?" He asked. I looked at him before laying my eyes on her again.
"I suppose so." I agreed.
"Do you miss her laugh?" He asked.
"Very much so." I replied. He nodded.
"Yeah." He agreed. We both sat there. "Well, I'll leave you to it." He said.
"Actually, I have nothing more to tell her. Do you want to go for a walk? I don't feel like trying to go to bed." I said. He smiled a little.
"Sure." He said. We both left New Jericho. Everything had been moved to the upper floor now and the construction was nearly complete. I had to admit, the others had done a great job restoring everything to its former glory. We walked along for a while.
"So, what are your plans now that the humans are beginning to return?" I asked.
"I don't think I'll be allowed to be a surgeon yet. I think I'll help out at the station with you three." He said.
"You're going to be a cop?" I asked.
"Not a chance. I'm going to help out with other stuff. I was hoping I could land a spot with the files. I'm a great organizer to my own surprise." He said. "Besides, the field was never really my style. I'm not good with a gun." He admitted.
"I suppose that would be a downfall." I agreed. He nodded.
"You'd think (Y/n) wouldn't want to go back though. She should get a years worth of vacation time after all of this." Oreon joked. I laughed a little.
"You really think she'd take time off?" I asked. He chuckled.
"I'll give you that one." He said.
"Oreon, may I ask you a personal question?" I said.
"Yeah. Sure." He replied.
"Who were you before you became deviant?" I asked. He looked nervous.
"Why are you asking me this?"
"I was programmed to ask questions. I suppose curiosity is apart of my personality. Plus I wanted to learn more about you." He said.
"I was..." He closed his eyes. "I was a sex robot." I was shocked.
"WHAT!?" I couldn't hold in my outburst.
"Connor, there's a reason why I look like I do. Haven't you ever thought of that?" He asked. I did have to admit, Oreon was a rather attractively made model. I had just never thought too deeply about it.
"I suppose....I never gave it proper thought." I said. He sighed.
"You know, there was another android there like me. She was really beautiful, but...she refused to come with me. She said that leaving was dangerous. She'd told me that we might as well enjoy our lives because it wasn't like things were going to get better." I was stunned.
"What was this android's name?" I asked.
"Her name? Well, not Traci, because she wasn't a Traci model. She had told me she had come from a house and that her owners had left her there. After waiting for a few days, she'd run away and joined the Eden Club, having no other great ideas on where to go." He said. "But her name was Valentine." I nodded, thinking about it.
"Oreon, you said she refused to come with you. What happened?" I asked. He sighed.
"I told her we could live a better life, outside of the Eden Club. I told her...that I would take care of her. She didn't want to leave, afraid of getting caught and killed. She was terrified of it. She really is a brave android, but she was just too doubtful of herself to want to try. I don't know what happened to her. For all I know, she could be dead." Oreon said.
"Did you...care for her as well?" I asked. He looked at me.
"Yes." He replied. I was shocked. "It's why I care about (Y/n) so much, Connor. She reminded me of what I once had with Valentine. But, once again, I'm just...alone." He said. I felt bad.
"Oreon, I apologize for bring up such a matter. I'm sorry that happened to you." I said.
"It's my past, Connor. It's the life I have. Nobody can change it." He said.
"Oreon, you should try to find her."
"Connor, you can't change what's happened to me. And you can't change how I feel. I did care for Valentine, but she never looked at me the way (Y/n) looks at you. She never even looked at me the way (Y/n) looks at me. It's why I've given up. If the world doesn't want me to find...somebody like that, then I might as well accept it. Like I said, you've won. I just want you to keep her happy." Oreon told me. I frowned. He heaved a sigh. "It's getting late, huh? We should head back." With that, he turned around and began to walk back to New Jericho. Silently, I followed him, having nothing left to say.
