Chapter 138

Connor's arms wrapped around you and you felt his body heat up, trying to warm you. You soon stopped shivering, but you stayed encased in his arms. Hank had also turned the heat on for you and then he began to head out to New Jericho.

You relaxed into Connor's arms as he kept you warm, radiating enough heat for both of you. You closed your eyes as he held your body close to his. You felt his fingers intertwine with your own and you smiled a little.

"Thank you." You whispered, soft enough so only Connor would hear. It was easy for your words to go unnoticed with the background sound of Hank's heavy metal music playing. It wasn't too loud since both you and Oreon weren't exactly fans of it.

Connor didn't mind it, mostly because he was used to listening to it since he was always with Hank before he became a deviant. You thought it was nice how Connor took to liking some of the things Hank did. It really did show how much they'd grown on each other. They really were father and son.

Soon enough you were all warmed up and Hank glanced at you both in the mirror, seeing your smile.

"You good now, kid?" He asked.

"Yeah. I guess I should've worn something a little warmer today. I forgot to see what the temperature was going to be." You said, semi-embarrassed. Oreon chuckled and Hank grinned a little.

You all arrived at New Jericho a few minutes later and you climbed out of the car after Hank parked. You all walked inside and you looked around. You saw that people were either hanging out or doing their jobs around the building. You saw Simon and Josh talking with each other and you all hurried over to them.

"Hey, Simon. Hey, Josh." Oreon greeted. They turned and they looked a little surprised by you four, but they welcomed you nonetheless.

"What are you all doing here?" Simon asked.

"We need to talk to Markus. We're trying to find somebody we believe he knows." Connor explained.

"Oh. Follow us then. Markus should be in the discussions and meetings room." Josh said. You all followed the two of them and you eventually found Markus with North and a few other androids. You didn't know what they were talking about since the meeting had just ended.

Markus and North noticed you all. You all greeted each other. You had to admit, it was good to see Markus again.

"So why are you guys all here?" Markus asked.

"We need your help, Markus." Hank said.

"We need to find Carl Manfred. Oreon said you might know him." You explained. His face fell.

"Carl?" He asked. He looked deep in thought for a moment.

"Do you know him?" Connor asked.

"O-of course I know him, but...he wasn't well last time I saw him." Markus explained.

"We still need to talk to him. He's our only lead for our investigation so far. He's a friend of the man we need to find." You told him. Markus sighed.

"Alright. I'll take you to his house, but I can't promise he'll be...well enough to talk." Markus said. It sounded like he'd had a lump in his throat, afraid to finish the sentence. If that's the case, Carl must've been really sick. You thought, hoping that you were wrong.

You all headed out, Oreon driving this time since Markus had given him the address and the directions. With Hank not being an android, it was easier to let Oreon drive. Markus joined you and Connor in the back, you being semi-squished between the two boys. Connor pulled you closer to him to give Markus more room and help you get a bit more comfortable. You were used to being close to Connor, after all.
