He really did want to be a soldier. He didn't understand what it meant when he was a kid, but he knew of the old military and how those soldiers were honored, and he wanted to be brave like them.

Well, he wanted to be dead for a long time when he was growing up, but after going through a few things, he never really wanted to be anything. He just sort of let life take him where it wanted.

The day he woke up in a trashcan he knew he was supposed to be a detective. It just sort of happened, what with the old memories and stuff.

He wanted to be a fireman, except he thought that it meant a man going around and starting fires. He was super excited about it until someone told him the real definition. After som self-discovery, he really did want to be a spy. He thought they were cool.

He wanted to be invisible. Growing up, he never really thought about his career, and was more focused on being accepted and loved for who he was.

Growing up, Danse wasn't focused on work, and he was just focused on surviving and doing his best to get by. Until the Brotherhood showed up, he never knew his purpose.

Maxson
He never wanted to be anything, but the title of Elder was destined to be his from birth. He later figured that it was a position he had a right to be proud of.

He's literally never thought of getting a job. He just likes to stay at home and clean all day, and you joked that he could be a maid.

He just wanted to be a part time barber and a full time gang leader. He wasn't a gang leader, but he was a minor inconvenience at most.

He wanted to be a hero. He always thought of these situations where he'd save someone and be a hero, and be adored throughout the Wasteland, but he later got more realistic.

He had no choice. From childhood he always had a job, and never knew of any other career choices for himself.

He knew he wanted to be a doctor from a very young age. Fighting was never his forte, but healing the fighters was.

Boone
He actually just wanted to start a family. He was so excited to be a father and a spouse, but had it ripped away from him before he could even blink.

Raul
When he was little, he wanted to be one of the people who stands on the back of garbage trucks. Then he wanted to be a grave digger. Then he ended up falling in love with his fathers career of mechanics.

Benny
He didn't think about it. From his teens to young adulthood he was focused on two things: getting laid, and becoming a total power vacuum.

He didn't know what he wanted to do, he just knew he wanted to be famous. Everyone knows his name, so in a small way, he got what he wanted.

From a young age, he wanted to be an entertainer of some sort, and later figured out that singing worked better than anything else he'd tried, and that he was truly talented in that field.

He wanted to be the coolest guy ever! He wanted to wear sunglasses and have everyone adore his badass style! He'll walk around with sunglasses and everyone will adore his cute little style.

He wanted to be a cowboy. He wanted to ride horses and smoke and drink and shoot guns and catch criminals. He did just that and he loved every second of it.

Many people say he looks like Colonel Sanders, and tell him to sell chicken. He hates them for it and usually goes out of his way to experiment on them.

Dr. Mobius
He wanted to be a figure skater. He can still ice skate pretty darn well, but is rusty. Plus, you won't let him near bladed shoes when he's high, or tired.
