A little backstory-when she liked someone, she would just embarrass herself completely. When she was in high school, she liked this guy on the soccer team. He was the sweetest guy ever, pretty much her dream guy. They became friends when they met sophomore year of high school. Long story short, halfway through their Senior year, she told him she liked him, and he rejected her in front of the whole soccer team and the entire school at the championship game. One of her closest friends at that school at the time was the one who cheered her up and ended up punching soccer boy in the face after the game. Since that embarrassing moment, she's refused to open herself up to any guy she's ever met, hence why her dating life was never that great. One of her friends actually asked her to prom, but it was more of a friendly date than an actual date. But poor girl hasn't been on an actual date since then.
She arrives at Starbucks, where she spots Rachel and Maddie in line through the window as she gets out of her car. She walks into the popular coffee shop and walks up to the two girls. "Heyyy," she says, cheerfully.
"Hey, you," Rachel says. Maddie says the same. They hug it out and go up to the cashier when it was their turn. They order what they want and wait for their to be called out at a table.
They sit and talk, make jokes here and there, mostly Maddie since she's the funny one in the group. Their order gets called, and Rachel goes to grab all of the drinks from the counter. She gets back to their table. "Okay," she says. "Caramel macchiato with almond milk for Melanie, a mocha frap for Maddie, and a white chocolate mocha for me."
They all drink their coffees as they continue some small talk. Then dating comes up. Rachel started talking about this dating app she started using, and Maddie talked about this guy in her building. Melanie starts thinking Maybe it's time.
"Okay," Melanie starts. Rachel and Maddie look to her. "So, I've been thinking about what you guys said last night." Come on, Mel, just say it. "I think I'm gonna give dating a try."
Maddie and Rachel squeal, and Rachel claps her hands excitedly. "Oh my god, okay," she takes a deep breath, "it's happening."
Maddie smiles really big. "Our baby is growing up," she says, wiping away imaginary tears.
Melanie gives them an odd look as she laughs at their craziness. "Relax, guys," she says.
Rachel looks at her as if she has three heads. "Are you kidding me?" She asks rhetorically.
Maddie looks at her. "How can we relax now that you've finally realized that you need a dating life," she says.
Melanie tries to act offended, but it's the sad truth. "Yeah, it took my best friend posting about his relationship on his Instagram story," she says.
The other two ladies laugh at her. "It's okay," Maddie says. "We'll teach you everything we know." Maddie pats her shoulder.
"That concerns me," Melanie says.
They laugh at her statement. "Okay, well, why don't you observe the diner, today," Rachel suggests. "There's a lot of cute guys that go there."
Maddie nods, agreeing with Rachel. "And it's Phoenix," she says. "There are cute guys all over the city."
Melanie nods at them. "Okay," she says. "How do I start putting myself put there?" She's really nervous about this whole thing.
Rachel smirks at her. "I have an idea," she says.
Melanie looks at her. "Uh-oh," she replies. "I know that look. I'm either gonna like her idea or call her stupid for it." Maddie laughs at her words.
Rachel playfully roles her eyes. "C'mon, it'll be okay," she says. "Why don't you sign up for Bumble?"
"That dating app?" Rachel nods at her. Melanie immediately shakes her head. "No way. I've seen the show 'Catfish'. It's not gonna happen."
