My life was falling apart. I was in debt, working a minimum wage paying job, and refusing to ask for help. I thought everything was over for me.
That is.... until he showed up.
Melanie holds his hand. "It was actually pretty good," she replies. "How was practice?"
He shrugs as he thinks about practice. "It was the same old workouts we always do, but it's nice getting back on the court." In all honesty, he can't wait to finally play a game.
"Do you think you're ready to play in a couple days?" she asks as they reach his car.
He nods at her as he opens the door for her. "Yeah, we've been feeling anxious lately, so it's gonna be a good game." He closes her door and throws her bag in the trunk before getting in on the driver's side. He puts his seatbelt on, starts the car and pulls out of the parking spot. "Do you think you'll be able to make it to the game?"
She nods at him. "Yeah, of course." She has class until 3 that day, and the game was at 6:45, so she'd for sure make it to the game.
He smiles as he grabs her hand and lays a sweet kiss on the back of her hand. "Okay, tell me about your classes today."
She thinks about it for a second. "Nothing really happened. It was just an introduction to everything I'm taking this year."
He nods at her. "When do your clinical hours start?"
"Not till next semester." That's when she helps out in the emergency room of any hospital in the area they assign her to. "What else are you doing today, besides practice?"
He merges into the highway as he thinks about it for a second and smirks. "I was just gonna spend it wit' 'chu, babe." He steals a quick glance before looking back at the road.
Melanie blushes at his words. "Why are you so cheesy?"
Devin laughs at her words. "I can't help it, mama." He brings her hand up to his lips and kisses her knuckles. "I love you, babygirl."
Melanie blushes at the nickname. "I love you more, Pooka." She leans her head on his firm bicep.
Devin smiles as he tightens his grip on her hand and continues the drive home. "Not possible."
It's only been almost 8 months since they got together, but one thing is for sure is that they are each other's person.
