Olivia gives him a look. "Try being a gay woman in a very religious, immigrant family."
Melanie gives her a confused look as she grabs all the materials she needed. "Didn't your mom accept you in one second?" she asks.
Olivia nods at her. "Yeah, but my dad still isn't getting it, yet." She came out to her family in high school. While her mom, her grandma, and her siblings accepted her, her dad had some trouble accepting that his daughter was into women and was more comfortable in suits rather than dresses.
Melanie smiles sadly as she rubs her shoulder. "I'm sorry, Liv."
Olivia shakes her head. "It's okay. That old man's never gonna change." She smiles slightly. "And, honestly, I don't care."
Melanie and Josh smile at her, proudly. "That's the spirit, Liv," Josh says.
Olivia shrugs. "I mean, it just does not stick. He just tells our family that I'm only scared of men cuz I was attacked by one in college."
Melanie and Josh immediately look concerned. "Oh, my," Melanie says.
Olivia reassures them. "Oh, no, it was a squirrel." Then, she makes a face. "And it was female."
Melanie and Josh chuckle. "I'm sorry, Liv," Josh says. "I hope your Pops comes around".
Olivia gives him a look. "Like how yours did when you told him you wanted to go into nursing, instead of joining the Marine Corps?"
Josh points at her. "Hey, that's completely different."
Melanie laugh and shakes her head at them as they start their playful bickering. They've developed the greatest friendship within the past month, and it was refreshing for Melanie to have friends within work rather than the team.
Once they got their things ready, they all walk out to see Nurse Solano going through some paper work. He looks up at them and smiles. "Ah, great," he says. "My interns are ready." He gives them each a copy of the paperwork he was looking at. "Happy Valentine's Day, guys."
Melanie sighs. "Not very happy for me," she mumbles.
Luckily, Nurse Solano didn't hear her and moved on. "Today, we are helping Dr. McAllister on a, uh," he trails off, trying to find the right words. "Very interesting case today." He gestures for them to follow him to a room. "A woman came in a few minutes ago with an object inside of her." He looks at them. "Now, be prepared for what you will see behind this door. It might be the strangest thing in your life that you'll ever see."
They all look confused. "Can't be that strange, right?" Josh wonders. The other two shrug at him.
Nurse Solano opens the door, letting the interns in first. The three interns drop their jaws when they see the sight in front of them. "It appears her husband is the object inside of her," Nurse Solano says.
Melanie, Olivia, and Josh tilt their heads to the side when they see the position they're in. "You can do that?" Olivia asks, quietly.
Nurse Solano sighs at them. "Imagine my reaction when they first came in from the ambulance bay," he says.
The woman yelps in pain when she feels her husband move. "Ow! Max, it hurts when you move," she says.
Max looks apologetic. "Sorry," he says.
