While still standing on the veranda she looked at her school terrace when she felt a sudden movement. A boy was standing at the corner leaning on the wall and looking at the sky.
"Why the hell is a person in the restriction area, that too at night?" Mona frowned. "Who is he?" 🤨
People tend to go there when they want to have their own space away from stress. This place was unofficially reserved for the seniors. But the batch graduated. The only batch that was left was theirs. Not many people moved into the dorms yet as the vacation didn't end.
She took her HD-quality phone out and zoomed in to get a good look at the boy's face. To her utter shock, it was Saish. Mona's frown deepened.
Knowing him, he never once stepped there till day. He was standing there now when they just got back from the trip, which went perfectly fine, looking like a broken person? It was unusual of him.
She gave him a call. He picked it up in a single ring.
"Hey", he didn't let her greet him back and asked, "You are still up? It's past 10. Is something wrong?" concern took over his voice in a split second.
Mona scoffed. He was in no position to be bothered about her right now. "I think I am the one who should ask you what's wrong. Why are you standing over there? Did something happen in or after the trip?"
Quiet ripples spread around in the call for a while before he finally spoke "I am confused about something. Not the trip, but something. Just came to reset my mind."
Mona, hearing that, asked, "And...What's that something?"
They were friends and had known each other for an adequately long enough time to be nosy and butt into each other's business. There was no 'yours' and 'mine' in that relationship.
In one word there is no privacy in friendship.😉
"It's something I can't put in words or explain cuz if I do, I will sound lunatic. It doesn't make sense. I should do it, as it feels like my responsibility, but I am not convinced. If I choose not to do it, it will make me a monster. I can't call myself a human after not doing that" Saish sighed. "It's complicated."
Mona endlessly related to every single word omitted by him. It was the exact description of her state of mind, clearly superimposed on the problem she was facing. Though she didn't get why he was in that condition too, she patiently and attentively heard everything he let out.
He continued venting out his anger and irritation in the call which lasted about 15 minutes. He opened up to her like a blossoming flower, with no filter and only feelings. It might be the first time he spoke so many words at a time with her.
His last sentence before ending the call was "Well, I will sort it out by tomorrow."
Mona replied, "You will. For sure. Now change that face of yours it looks ugly."
He smiled at his phone screen at her statement and her effort to cheer him up.
"You didn't tell me when I asked. But you told her?" Nishan walked in from the door.
"Who?" Saish acted nonchalant.
"If it isn't me, it's always Mona. Don't bother acting innocent" Nishan teased.
The squabble went on for a while before they went back to their room.
Mona also went inside her room. She drifted into sleep as soon as she put on some pleasant music, which eased her.
She set 7 alarms for the next rising sun. Each 5 minutes apart. She needs that push to wake up during her holidays. Mona prioritizes sleep over everything, but a certain someone believes she will be there. Breaking trust is harder than you think. So she put a lock on her heart and listened to her brain for now.
