"Why did no one tell me just interviews can cost you your life, peace and will to live?" Mona was on the verge of collapsing. Purple marks rounded her eyes and streaks of stress lines invaded her forehead. 🤦♀️
"Just a few more, Purple. We got this. You were great till now"
"Was I? But why do I feel like my blood is draining from the brain" Mona was slouching in the chair. Her eyes fluttered close every second.
Saish cracked a chuckle and tousled her hair, to comfort her.
She just side-eyed him. Too tired to even bother arguing about him messing her hair up. "Let's just do it quickly. My bed is sending me invitations from which seemed like an eternity now."
The chuckle turned into a full-fledged laugh on his face. And Mona's eyes shined at the scene.
"You look ethereal when you laugh", she just blurted out without putting much thought. Saish stopped. By the time he comprehended, he was totally blushing. It was a sight to keep.
A few beats passed, and Mona broke out of the spell he cast on her. "Uh... let's call the next one in?" She said, realising things will get awkward if this doesn't end here. No matter how much she hated killing their moment and vibe, she didn't want to lose that easily going thing with him. More of such moments, the more distant they will become. Nowadays, they are happening a bit more frequently. She was ok with whatever he said or did to her as she was head over heels for him. But she wasn't sure about him. She wasn't sure if he was giving her nicknames and the attention he always gave her out of his feelings for her or not. So, she chose the better option than to keep guessing - maintain a friendly, respectable boundary. 🤷♀️
This mentioned boundary pisses him off endlessly. More than a fly can piss off a human. He didn't need her civilized self. He wanted, desperately needed her crackheadness, her mindless words, her little teases, her cute smiles, her as a whole. He wanted her to be as she liked, with him. Not rarely but always.
But at the end of the day, he was a human too. Who has insecurities. Who has doubts. He knows he likes her, but he as well was too scared to destroy what they have built over the years. She was too precious for him to lose. If she gives him a boundary, he will take it. No complaints.
That was where their relationship's progress was hung for years. Scared to take a step. Fear of disappointment. Fear of getting rejected.
Just like that, they selected 20 people out of 200 who appeared for the posts. They selected a few based on their strength and a few based on their wits. Now, the tough part was to train them. Mould them into fine missiles that could save this planet when they weren't around.
"Let's do the same thing Blue and Green did. Let's first make them fit for challenges, then give them power based on their skills and then train them on how to manage and manipulate their power" Mona briefed their plan of action about upcoming sessions.
"Hmm," Saish agreed in a heartbeat.
The selected candidates were waiting for them in the huge hallway, leading out of the interview room. The moment the door opened showing Mona and Saish, everyone's attention was on them. Eager and curious.
"You are selected. We will start your training early in the morning tomorrow. You will be taught about physical strength, defence and attack techniques, mind stabilisation and a few protocols you will have to follow. If anyone has any questions they can ask." Saish sounded balanced, with a deep voice. The commanding and controlled tone sent shivers down the spines of everyone present. He sounded just like the king he was. Ruthless and powerful. Yet warm-blooded.
