As said the game was wild and ferocious. They were playing the game point now. Scores the same most of the time in the whole game. They played neck to neck. Even the commenters and coaches were confused and worried about the teams. Audience were going crazy.
This must be the first time in the history of these interschool competitions that girls' basketball match got more attention than the boys. Even principals of each school came to view the match halfway through.
"Mona, pass it!" Jesvi shouted. Causing the other team to drift their attention to Jesvi. Their team smirked. Mona did act like she was going to pass the ball but at the final moment she didn't. She shot it into the basket from the three-point line. If it falls into the basket, they get three points and will win the match. If it doesn't the match will continue.
All eyes traced the trajectory of the ball, as it hit the rim of the basket, did a circle fumbling in and out and landed into it. Silence crafted the room before it erupted into loud cheers. They won.
Jesvi ran and jumped onto Mona, wrapping her legs around her like a koala. Mona enclosed her smiling ear to ear. Their signature move any and every time they win.
Their team members surrounded them.
Jesvi's eyes darted, searching for Nishan, while Mona's went for Saish. Nishan and Saish were standing at the entrance, panting slightly. They must have just made it to see the match, wrapping up their football match.
Mona raised her brows enquiring how did their match go. Saish smiled with a nod. She beamed and mouthed congrats. 😄
All the five of them ended up in their canteen. Celebrating their respective wins.
"What about chess Sun?" Mona asked her, noting all their wins and losses.
"One gone, another is in the way to go"
"We suck at chess", Jesvi laughed, a little embarrassed.
"Table tennis?"
" We lost" Sunaira shook her head. She has been following indoor activities ever since her competitions were done.
"We have always lost almost all the indoor competitions anyway. Not a new thing" Saish shrugged.
"True. But I thought this year would be different" Mona replied, honestly.
"Let's just compensate it by winning outdoor ones and literary ones, as always" Nishan grinned.
"Optimistic guy, huh?" Jesvi teased him.
"Continue people. We will go and say 'hi' to the witch and come back", Mona signalled Saish. And he stood up from his seat, following her out.
"How come you aren't bleeding today?" Mona raised her brows.
"We played safe. We still have to win in the semis. We can't afford to be hurt now," Saish replied, his hands in his pocket.
"So you are planning to get hurt in the semis?"
"No. But in the finals"
Mona pinched his biceps, punishingly. Saish didn't flinch, didn't retract, didn't even bother to groan. He walked, as though it wouldn't be causing him a brutal bruise the next day.
"Didn't it hurt?" Mona frowned confused. She was sure she did pinch hard.
"It did"
"Then react! Were you, by default, a rock in your past life?" Mona genuinely was curious about this. The only time she gets to see a definitive reaction in him is when she gets into trouble. That's the only time. 🪨
