"Toss a coin to your Witcher.
O' valley of plenty
O' valley of plenty, Ooo~"

I heard Jaskier sing in the distance. He must be somewhere behind the church that was just right next to the market. With my basket full of vegetables and fruits I made my way to Jaskiers singing and found him surrounded by a quite big crowd who seemed to really enjoy his song. His eyes caught me and he stopped for a second and grabbed my wrist through the crowd and told me to sing along. I laughed and tried my best, even though I didn't remember all of the lyrics.

It was fun singing with Jaskier even tho I don't like to sing myself. After I started to sing along the crowd did as well as soon as the refrain started. So he is popular after all. After the performance, he bowed and took my wrist to bow along with him. I had to balance the basket so nothing would fall out of it and I somehow managed that. A few minutes later the crowd was gone and Jaskier smiled at me. "You did pretty good, Eve." he said and I bowed playfully. "You weren't bad yourself."

"I want to take a look at the board quickly, wanna come with me?" I asked my friend who eagerly nodded and came with me to the said board on which were plenty of requests given by the people in our village. "Oh look, Eve." Jaskier got my attention and pointed towards one piece of paper that said 'Killing drowned dead' I shrugged. "And?" I asked and he told me to take a closer look at it and then I saw it. The job was given by my father. I groaned. "He could have just asked me to do that. Some drowned dead. How bad can it be? Also paying somebody to do that won't be easy since everyone is expecting high payments for killing monsters." I was annoyed. "Eve, I don't know. You're good with swords, no doubt, but I don't think that your iron sword is strong enough to beat them." Jaskier scratched his neck and avoided looking at me. Lucky him because he would be dead just by my glare.

"Okay, okay. I'm sorry. I'm just worried about you. Let someone who has done that for years take this. I don't want you to die and I guess your father thinks so too. I can ask Geralt if he would do that. I'm sure if I ask him he's gonna give you some discount." he told me and winked but I just sighed. "I don't know. Well, father is working hard and so do I and I don't know if it's worth then paying somebody a huge amount of coin for just some drowned dead, especially if it's not our problem, I mean it would be the fisherman's duty to post this."

We just stopped our conversation because none of us got a solution for this but speaking to my father about it and so we made our way to my home. There's not a lot of time until I need to go to work at the tavern near the market. I would see Jaskier there almost every day because that's what he does: perform anywhere to make some coin.

As soon as we arrived at my house Jaskier and I said our goodbyes and he left. Father wasn't outside at his store anymore, must be inside melting some iron or so. Just as expected father was standing in front of his oven melting some iron, I think it was. "I'm back, father." I said, so my father would notice me. He turned around and smiled at me. On his forehead was sweat and his face was covered in soot. "Eve, did ya got everythin'?" he asked and I nodded as I put the basked on the simple wooden table. "Good." my father just stated and continued his task.

Our house was a simple yet big one. It had a second floor where the bedrooms would be. My mother had bought this house long ago or did she inherited it? Anyway, she earned good money - she was a sorceress. That's also the reason why my father was so happy to have a child, even though it's an adopted one; a sorceress will lose her fertility as the final step to become a sorceress.

"Father?" I asked him and so he put his, soon to be a sword, away and wiped the sweat on his forehead away. "Why did you give out a job to kill some drowned dead?" I asked and was unpacking the goods rather pissed. "I could do that as well, you know." I stated as my father came up to me. "Eve, you couldn't-", "Then all the training you gave me was for nothing!" I yelled what shocked my father. "Listen! I don't want you to die out there. It is one thing that I've already lost your mother but I can't bear anymore dying! Do ya understand?!" he was saying rather loud and took my hands into his owns. I nodded.

"But father-" he interrupted me. "No, what a father would I be if I would send my own daughter to kill some monsters. Even if it was your own wish, I would never forgive myself if you would die because of something I have given out." he told me and kissed the back of my hand at the end of his sentence as he had taken it while he talked to me. "I understand." I said and let my head down.

Until dinner it was quiet. The whole time I was in my room in which there was a double bed in a wooden frame and it had dark red blankets and brownish pillows. Also, there was a dresser with a large mirror above it. At last in front of the window, there was a small table with two chairs standing by it and a candle to enlighten anything being on the table, for one being some notes and a book, that was still open.

At the moment I was sitting on my bed looking outside the window to see birds flying around and children playing on the streets. My black hair was hanging loose down on my shoulders as it nearly reached down under my breasts. I would tie it up for work but today I didn't feel like it so I left it like this. I got my clothes ready for my shift at the tavern: brown cloth pants with a grey poet blouse that was covered by a brown vest and some belts around the hip.

I went downstairs and saw my father sitting in front of the fireplace carving a piece of wood. He must have heard my steps coming from the stairs because he had turned to face me and smiled lightly. I smiled back. "I'm off to work." I told him as I stepped towards the door. "Be careful."

"I will."
