"Your man might've mentioned that the road was too narrow for horses in his initial sales pitch." Jaskier sighed as he and his two Witcher friends made their way to the start of the hunt. "Welcome to the world, Jaskier." Geralt simply said, carrying his bags now that Roach couldn't. Evelyn had to do the same, Amber had to stay as well, obviously.
The dwarfs were busy cursing the Reavers but then thought they might introduce themselves to the now arriving team. "Name's Yarpen Zigrin." the leader said holding his hand out for Geralt. "Geralt of Rivia." he introduced himself. The dwarf looked at Evelyn who stood next to Geralt. "Evelyn of Lyria." she said and the dwarfs nodded. "And my name is Julian Alfred Pankratz-" the dwarf didn't want to hear it. "Aye. I know." Evelyn patted his shoulder to cheer him up from that impoliteness.
"You'll fetch a goodly amount for those mares if you sell now!" another dwarf offered. "Charming how everyone wants to get their hands on Roach and Amber these days isn't it?" Jaskier said walking over to the horses. "He means we won't make it out alive." Evelyn said giving Jaskier a quick glance over Amber's shoulder. "Wait, what? No one mentioned anything about impending death!"
A female voice came up, a voice they've last heard in Rinde. "How is it that I've walked this earth for decades without coming across a Witcher, and then the first two I meet, I can't get rid of?" Yennefer asked approaching the group. "I'd say something strange was afoot, but then again, Witchers are bound to bump into monsters eventually." Jaskier said with a little smug grin on his face. Yennefer laughed dryly. "Jaskier." she said and looked at said bard. "Yennefer." he answered. "The crow's feet are new." she stated. "Yeah, well, your jokes are... old."
"What are you doing here, Yennefer?" Evelyn asked the mage. "I'm here with my escort. Noble Sir Eyck of Denesle. To assist him in killing the dragon." she proudly said as she looked back at the knight. "For kingdom and glory!" he shouted with his sword raised into the air. She looked back. "What are you doing here, Geralt?" she asked. "Thought Witchers don't kill dragons." Geralt grunted. "We don't but I'm here because I trust my fiancée." he said and stressed the word fiancée. Yennefer scoffed. "Til we meet again." she said and walked off.
Guards and citizens stood by the starting line of the hunt. One of them blew into a bugle as a signal to begin. It would take them a while to arrive at the dragon's nest but all teams were determined to win and be the next lord of a vassal state.
"It's so kind of you to share the spoils of this expedition with an old man as Borch. You're like two fiercely loyal, uh... friends. I wanna say friends. Relatives. Contract security." Jaskier said to Téa and Véa, still trying to woo one of them. "To hunt with him is an honour unsullied by payment." Véa said to which Téa agreed with a nodding. "But why?" Jaskier chuckled. The two women stooped in their tracks. "He is the most beautiful." Jaskier was confused and sighed.
"I've heard the word 'fiancée', did I hear that right?" Borch asked the two Witchers walking next to him. Geralt only nodded. "I always believed that Witchers don't feel but now that I know that you two are even engaged that changes everything. Another first for me, huh?" he chuckled. What they didn't know was that a certain mage was listening to all of that. Yennefer was quite shocked after hearing that Geralt was now engaged maybe she should then keep the promise she made to Evelyn, that she wouldn't make a move on Geralt. Whereas Geralt wasn't the one, she put her lips onto.
"Dragons avoid people." Geralt stated as they looked into a burned valley where the dragon must have been. "It should have left when they attacked. I don't get it. Why the retaliation?" Borch folded his hands behind his back. "When your species is on the verge of collapse, perhaps everything becomes more desperate." Borch said and left. Geralt and Evelyn exchanged a glance.
"Ladies, you look famished." Jaskier said towards Téa and Véa as they continued their adventure to the mountains. "Allow me to wander aimlessly into this thicket and retrieve for you, uh... a tasty afternoon treat." Jaskier said and walked right into the bushes, looking for some berries or anything else to eat. Everyone was now standing and looking at Jaskier, waiting for him to finish whatever he tried to really do. He found some berries and picked them from the bush. A barking and whimpering were heard what caught Jaskiers attention. He kneeled down a little to get a closer look. "There's something back here. It sort of looks like a faun." he shouted to the rest of the group. "Jaskier." Evelyn said rubbing the bridge of her nose.
"Hello, little fellow." He greeted the thing in the bushes. "Aw! Aren't you just the cutest-" he began but stopped when the animal stood up from the bushes. "Most terrifying thing I've ever seen in my entire life." He said at the creature who had two big bright eyes in its skull which was too big for the rest of the body which seemed to be only skin and bones. "Right, run away! Run away! Geralt, Evelyn!" The bard shouted for help. Both Witchers prepared themselves to draw their silver swords at any moment. "It's one of your... friends again." he said and ran out of the bushes, hiding behind Geralt. The creature got out as well now being visible for everyone.
"What in the name of Bloemenmagde is that?" One of the dwarfs asked shocked by the animal. "It's a Hirikka. It's probably starving. Sheathe your weapons." Everyone listened to the Witcher, except for one; Sir Eyck. He went straight forward, pushing a dwarf to the ground and drawing his sword which he then slammed into the shoulder of the Hirikka, slicing off its arm. The other arm followed just like the head. It whimpered and growled in pain, before the head, and soon after, its body landed on the dirty ground. The knight kept hitting the creature with his sword. The poor creature, which was already dead, got hit yet another time as if Sir Eyck wanted to make sure, that it wouldn't just stand back up again, that it wouldn't transform into his second form, which was even stronger. You get the sarcasm. This man clearly heard the wrong fairy tales as a child.
"For kingdom and glory!" He yelled as he stopped hitting the poor thing. "Sir Eyck!" Yennefer exclaimed as she rushed to his side, bumping into Geralt's shoulder, in the meanwhile. "You could have been killed!" She said grabbing both of his arms while she looked him worriedly in the eyes. She puts her hands on his cheeks, getting rid of the blood. "If we'd fed it, it would've gone away." Evelyn said pouting a bit, feeling sorry for the innocent animal. Geralt helped the dwarf get up. "Thanks. That knight may be a fucking dumbbell, but I'll be damned, the dragon won't stand a chance."
