Evelyns pov
I knocked on the door of the person who wanted the drowned dead killed. My dark clothing had here and there drops of blood because of the drowned dead and so had my sword. I still need to clean it up. The man opened the door of his house and greeted me with a sceptical look. "Did you kill 'em?" he asked and frowned at me and I smiled at him. "Yes, they're gone now." I stated and put my hands proudly against my hips. "Very well, just a second." I waited and not a minute later the man got back with the bag of coin. He gave it to me and I said my goodbyes. I killed them without Geralt helping me in any way, neither to find them nor to talk to the person who posted the job.
On my way back to the inn I ran into a person again. The same one, just as yesterday, or at least someone with a cloak. I sighed but apologized to the person. The person handed me a piece of paper and then ran off. "Hey, wait-" I shouted towards the person but he was gone so quickly that I had no chance of getting to know why he did that or what this is for, so I started reading it:
'Invitation
On the wish of Queen Meve of Lyria and Rivia, you've been invited to a royal banquet taking place at the castle in Lyria.
If wished you may bring a guest.'Okay... Why am I invited to such a thing? Maybe he thought I was someone different so I guess I won't attend it. At the inn, I looked around and looked for Geralt and Jaskier who should be up by now. Like I thought they were sitting at a table in the corner, the one Geralt and I had breakfast at. I sighed as I sat down beside Jaskier. "Are you alright?" Jaskier asked and I nodded. "Got my job done, got my coin and what surprises me the most is I got invited to a banquet." I muttered the last part. "What?" Geralt asked and I nodded. "Crazy, right?" I laughed. Suddenly Geralt grabbed something out of his pocket and showed me what it was.
'Invitation' was the only thing I read. "You too?" I asked with my eyes wide. Jaskier pouted. "Where is my invitation?" he crossed his arms but I chuckled at him. "If we go, you can come as my guest." that brightened up his mood, perfect. "Do you know this Queen?" I asked Geralt about the invitation on what he nodded. "No way! How?"
"Technically.." Geralt sighed. "She knighted me and gave me the title 'of Rivia'." he explained and Jaskier and I were both shocked, our mouths agape. "No way, you're a- you're a knight? Unbelievable." Jaskier says and I thought the same. "I guess we should go there then..?" I more questioned the two men and Jaskier nodded keen on the event and Geralt agreed too since the Queen's an old friend of his, as he told us.
"Still, I'm not sure, if that was really meant for me?" I muttered and put the invitation on the table. "What are you talking about? It clearly is addressed to you. See." Jaskier pointed at the invitation. At the very bottom of it, there was my name written on it, well only my first name. "How do they even know my name?" I asked more to myself and rubbed my temple as I thought about it.
"How far is Lyria from here?"
"A little less than one day." I nodded at that. "I guess we should start tomorrow, then we arrive in the evening and then we just stay at some inn 'til the next day." I suggested and both men agreed with me. I stood up from the table and put the invitation back into my pocket. "If you'll excuse me-" I curtseyed as a joke. "-I need to go and buy a dress." I rolled my eyes at that because of the way I spoke.
Maybe I'll find something decent, something not too annoying to wear. A dress not too revealing yet open enough to move comfortably in it would be perfect. Where do I start looking? Is there perhaps a tailor around here. I started looking around for one but because of the many people all over the place, I couldn't catch any sign of a tailor nearby so I started asking merchants if they knew if anyone sells dresses around here. One could help me out; he said that down the street there would be a tailor. I thanked him and went in the shown direction. I stopped as the street ended and the only possibilities were to go left or right.
I looked around and actually found a house with a tailor sign above it. I went inside and a small bell rang. As soon as that happened I was greeted by a tall, brunette man wearing green and yellow garb. He had a matching hat with a feather coming out of it. Yep, he must be the tailor. "How may I help you, miss?" He asked and smiled warmly at me.
"I'm looking for a dress." The tailor clapped his hands. "Oh, wonderful. For what occasion? A wedding perhaps?" as he said that he started looking around the white dresses. "Oh, no! Not a wedding." I chuckled and scratched my arm. "It's for a banquet." I told him the occasion. He rose his brows. "What kind of banquet? A royal one?" I nodded at that and he looked at me surprised. "I see, you're invited to Queen Meves banquet." Did the event spread around the city that fast?
"Let me see then. May I?" He asked as he got out a tape measure to check my size. I nodded and he started taking my sizes so he would know which dress to give me. Afterwards, he put it away and started looking around. "Feel free to look for yourself as well." he stated as he looked through a pile of clothing. He and I kept looking for one but we couldn't find anything that suited me. "Okay, that's the last one I can offer you." He gave me the last dress that would fit me, a simple one with enough room to move comfortably in. "That's perfect!"
