Geralt's pov
"How long can it take to put on a dress?" Jaskier questioned as he tapped his foot impatiently. I didn't say anything but kept waiting with the bard in front of the tavern along with our horses. Jaskier made me wear some garments that, as he said, are supposed 'to fit the banquet'. "Women." he sighed and just as it was summoning her, Evelyn came out of the tavern. My eyes widened a little at her sight. She looked stunning. She had her black hair tied up in a high bun and two strands of hair on each side of her face. She wore wine red lipstick and her eyelids coloured in a light shade of gold.
"Sorry, to make you wait." she apologized and pulled her dress up lightly to walk properly. She went over to Amber and asked Jaskier if he could ride her today since she had to sit sideways on her horse and couldn't ride a horse properly like that. I didn't hesitate and grabbed her by her waist and got her up on Roach. She sat in front and I sat behind her. "What?" Jaskier asked as he got up on Amber. I didn't answer and Evelyn did the same. We rode off to the castle for the banquet. It was silent during the ride, most likely because Evelyn always kept the conversation running but today she didn't say a word.
"Are you alright, Eve?" Jaskier asked from the other side and looked over at her and I tried, too, but it was no use; she was smaller than me and sat in front of me but what I saw was a birthmark on her neck. To me, it looked like a dandelion just without the colour. "Yes, wh-why are you asking?" She stuttered at the first part but caught herself. "You're all red." She chuckled nervously. "I'm just excited, you know. It's my first banquet I'm visiting after all." Yeah, right...
We arrived at the entrance of the castle and got down from our horses. Evelyn jumped off of Roach before I could offer any help. "May I see your invitations." one of the guards ordered after we tied our horses at the water trough where also was some hay. Evelyn and I got out the pieces of paper but then they looked at the bard. "What's with him?" the other guard asked and Evelyn explained to them that he was her guest she was bringing with her. They nodded and allowed us to enter the castle.
Everywhere in the grand halls were guards but Evelyn didn't seem to care. She looked with awe around the rooms and her eyes sparkled while she saw all the paintings, candles and coloured windows. It somehow made me happy to see her like that. Jaskier looked smilingly at her but was himself amazed by the building. We entered the main hall where the banquet took place. The guards in front of it opened the doors for us so we could enter. Evelyn stood still as we were a few steps into the hall. "Wow." she muttered and looked around the room.
Everywhere were tables filled with food and in the middle, there was room to dance. On a little pedestal was a long table with the royal family sitting at it. Queen Meve and King Reginald sat in the middle. Next to the King, there were two young boys. Next to the Queen, there was an empty seat.
"Look at all of that." Evelyn's happy voice caught my attention. She looked like a little child going into a bakery. I smiled slightly at that. "Geralt of Rivia." I heard my name and turned my head towards the voice. It was the Queens. I nodded at Jaskier so he would have an eye on Evelyn and I made my way to the Queen. "How long has it been?" She asked with a smile, her husband had the same one on his face. "Twenty years?" I asked back and the Queen laughed warmly at that.
"Listen, I got a request." She told me and I nodded with interest. "One of my spies found a clue of our daughter, you remember?" I nodded again. "We invited the girl who my spies think of to be her. Could you find out if it's really her?" I crossed my arms and thought of it for a second and then sighed. She was an old friend, so why not. "What does she look like?" The queen smiled at my way of accepting her job. "She's got black hair and got the same pair of eyes as Reginald does-" she gestured to him and I looked at him and tried to memorize the face. "Also, what is really important is a flower-like birthmark on her neck." My eyes widened not visible for the Queen but I nodded again and walked off.
Evelyns pov
"Eve, wait!" Jaskier said as he ran behind me. I was so excited and went looking around in the halls to explore the castle. "Jaskier, look!" I said and stopped in front of a picture that was hanging in the hall. It wasn't big, just the size of a small window. Jaskier came to a halt and exhaled exhausted. "Look!" I ordered again. The picture had a young couple, the King and Queen, in it holding a baby. The baby was around a year old and had black hair and grey eyes. "Didn't know my combination was that common." I muttered and Jaskier looked between the picture and me.
"Eve." He said calmly. I looked at him and tilted my head. "Don't freak out but-" he stopped and I had even more question marks over my head. "-the baby in the picture. Is it possible that it is you?" My eyes widened but then I laughed dryly. "Stop joking around, Jaskier and let's head back, shall we?" He sighed in annoyance and we went back.
I ran into Geralt as I entered the hall. "Evelyn!" He exclaimed and I looked at him. "Yes, that's my name." I agreed with him and nodded. "Turn around." He ordered and my eyes widened and a blush crept on my face but I did as I was told. "Fuck." He muttered as he had pushed the strands of hair aside and looked at my neck. What was he doing? I turned with a frown towards him. "What is it? Is my hair alright?" I asked, almost panicking and holding my hands on top of my head, where I could do no damage to my hair. "No, you're hair's perfect but I am afraid..." he started but stopped. "Yes?" I asked him and he sighed. "You're the lost princess."
