"Why are you hiding under that hood?" Fiona asked trying to look under the hood. Evelyn chuckled a little. "Nothing." she said and then revealed her face to the girl who examined it. "What's with your eyes?" she asked curiously tilting her head a little. Evelyn kneeled down to not stand too much above her, even tho she wasn't that tall at all. "Oh, it's nothing, I guess it's just pretty rare." she whispered to the girl and smiled a little. The girl smiled back. "Fiona!" A group of other children shouted and waved at her. "Coming!" she yelled back and then looked back to Evelyn who got back on her feet. "It was nice talking to you but my friends are waiting." she apologized and walked off to her friends.

Geralt walked down the hall which led to Ciris room, where she and her grandmother should be now. He stood in front of the door which was guarded by two knights who let the Witcher through. "We must sacrifice to fulfil destiny." Queen Calanthe explained to her granddaughter who was sobbing. The door shut behind Geralt who stood there patiently. "He may take you, but you will always be mine. I need you to be brave now, because who are you?" she said, taking the hand of Ciri, looking at her concerned. "The Lion Cub of Cintra." The girl answered and stood up from the sofa she's been sitting on with her grandmother. Geralt walked towards her, looking at her, his mind being with Evelyn and her whereabouts.

"Pleased to meet you, Princess." Geralt greeted the girl who stood stiff on the spot, breathing heavily. She looked down and turned to Calanthe. "Can I say goodbye to my friends now?" she asked at what she nodded. "Of course." and with that, the Princess, Cirilla, walked out of the castle to say her goodbyes. "I'll summon you when she's ready." Calanthe said and Geralt took his leave, opening the grand wooden door. The guards closed it again and he as well left the castle, going after Ciri, making sure she's safe.

Through a secret corridor, that happened to open while Geralt walked out he got into an alley. He saw his Child Surprise running at a group of children sitting on the floor, playing a game. "Korin, Anton, I have to go." she said and one of the boys stood up. "What? No!" he said but got a hug as an apology. "Take care." The boy said and the girl walked up to another one, which looked like a boy through the leathery hat she wore to hide her hair. "Your highness." she said and curtseyed a little. After that, she ran back from where she came. Geralt realized that the Queen was trying to trick him, to give another child, but not his Child Surprise.

Gritting his teeth he made his way back to Calanthe whom she found in the entrance hall. "First, you try to kill me and my wife, then you lie to me. We're just trying to keep Cirilla safe." Geralt growled, approaching the Queen. "Wife? I am surprised, you're not just a Witcher now but a widower. Also, Ciri is safe, with me, until the day she takes over my throne." Calanthe said and wanted to walk past Geralt but he blocked her way. "Listen to me." Geralt demanded but the Queen shook her head. "I did listen once. Let a hedgehog into my court. It got me Pavetta dead. I won't lose Ciri too. So you, Evelyn and destiny can all fuck right off. Because if Nilfgaard comes, will destiny carry a banner into battle? No. We have an army, a navy... and me." She said and again tried to walk past the Witcher.

"A dynasty can't survive on arrogance alone." he said to her and blocked her by putting a hand on her shoulder. "Says a Witcher. She needs family. You know nothing about that. Your own mother cared so little, she discarded you." she said and now walked past him. "You lecture me on a mother's love yet offer up someone else's daughter." Geralt growled at her and she stopped in her tracks. "Queen to all of Cintra, grandmother to one. I won't orphan that girl." she said and looked over her shoulder. "You're sentencing her to death. Even my own wife, who never had children yet a mother, knows more about a mother's love than you do." he shouted through the hall and left through a door. Eist walked in and asked about what he missed but got a simple 'nothing' as an answer.

Eist walked Geralt out of the castle on the Queen'S wish. "I remember when you honoured the Law of Surprise. What changed?" Geralt asked the King. "I had a granddaughter." he said but Geralt shook his head. "So protect her. What if Calanthe is wrong? What if they come and Ciri is trapped?" Geralt asked annoyed by the fact the Queen is lying to him and that Evelyn's missing, he was more than worried about her, even if he knew she'd get along well on her own. "I fight side by side with my Queen." Eist answered what Geralt understood, he usually fights side by side with his Queen or more princess. "You put too much faith in that woman."

"Well, you weren't there. After Pavetta died, Calanthe would wake up howling in the night. The Lioness, nearly broken. Someone who's able to pull themselves out of that, they'll have my confidence till my final day." Eis said stopping his and Geralt's steps in front of the gate. Geralt walked halfway through it. "I need you to promise you won't come back." Geralt turned at that sentence. "If I hear Ciri's in danger, you know I can't do that. Especially as long as my wife's here." As he said that the bars of the gate fell, trapping Geralt. "I know." Eist said and walked back into the castle.

"Here you are, Witcher!" A knight yelled as he spotted Evelyn walking in an alley. She didn't even turn but started running, of course, she got chased after. "Capture that woman!" one of them yelled what alarmed all knights. Running as fast as she could she turned into an alley. Panting she looked over her shoulder back. She didn't saw any guards and slowed down as she turned again. She groaned in pain as she ran right into the armour of another guard. Tumbling she stepped back a few steps holding her head.

Both Witchers were brought into the catacombs, being imprisoned but not in the same cell, they were far from each other, being stuck in the two cells that were the furthest from each other. While they had to spend the whole day in the cell not able to do anything but to meditate what was something Witchers did for a few hours when there was no possibility to sleep. This time it wasn't hours, but days. In the meanwhile, as nightfall came, Nilfgaards army attacked Cintra, slaughtering the streets, making their way to the castle.
