"Hey, Arthur, can I speak to you for a moment?"
He was in the middle of a meeting, with Danse and Ingram and their soldiers sitting around him. I had spoken softly, but at the sound of my voice, he immediately turned away from his men to face me. I smiled apologetically at Ingram, who went on discussing why she wanted Danse to be more careful with his Power Armor. Arthur walked over to me, and looked back at his people, "Yes, but make it quick."
I looked down, "I, uhm... I wanna tell you in private, and it might take some time, so..."
I hated taking him away from his work, because I knew it put more pressure on him and more work on his plate, but this was something that was more important than all of that. He dismissed his Knights and the others before telling me to head to our room. I did so, and momentarily afterwards, he came in as well, closing the door quietly and going to sit at his desk so he could get some other work done on his terminal. After a while, he glanced at me, and did a double take, standing up and coming to sit next to me on the bed, "You look ill... Are you alright?"
I tucked a strand of hair behind my ear, "Yeah, I just... Remember two weeks ago? When we were talking about kids?"
"Yes."
"And you know how we... gave it a shot?"
"Yes." He put the pieces together, just by looking at my small smile, and he immediately broke out into a grin, raising his brows at me, "Are you serious?"
I nodded, grabbing the positive test from the dresser and showing it to him, "Yeah. I can still do field work for about two months, but after that I-"
"No. I will have someone fill in for you. You will be on the Prydwen at all times."
I smiled a little, "If you say so. Well? What do you think? Good news?"
"Are you kidding me? This is phenomenal!" He looked to me and smiled again, "I'm gonna be a dad."
I chuckled, tears brimming my eyes at the reality of the joy we now had, "Yeah, you are."
He ran his fingers through his hair then scratched the back of his head, looking to me, "Can I tell everyone about this? They need to know not to bother you."
I laughed, "I'll be fine. You can tell them if you'd like. I can still move around and get work done at the moment, and I'd like to."
"I know, but I don't wan to risk you or our kid getting hurt, alright?"
I hugged his arm, resting my head on his shoulder and looking at the thin pregnancy test he held on his palm, "Don't worry about me. I'll be alright and I'll make sure nothing happens to our kid, okay? Trust me."
"Last time you said 'trust me', you brought a baby deathclaw on board, it tore a hole in the bottom of the Prydwen."
I perked up, "Hey, Fluffy was a present from a friend. He had no idea what he was doing! If our baby rips a hole in the Prydwen, would you throw them out too?"
He chuckled, "If a baby rips through metal like a deathclaw, that would be absolutely horrifying." We sat quietly for a moment before he stood up and pulled me to my feet gently, "Look, I know that I'm always busy with work and the Institute and whatnot, but by the time our baby is born, it will all be over, alright? We're on the brink of destroying them, and we're getting closer by the second. After all of that, I want you to know that I'm ready to dedicate every minute of my life to you and our kid. Okay?"
I chuckled, holding his hands, "Sounds like you're reciting your marital vows again."
He kissed me sweetly, "That was the best day of my life, but now I have a new favorite day to look forward too." He looked down to my stomach proudly before pulling me to his chest softly in a hug, wrapping his jacket around me and kissing the top of my head, "I love you."
"I love you too. Can we name the baby Richard so that we can call him Dick?"
He scoffed, "What makes you think it will be a boy?"
"Well, I don't think I'm supposed to feel this sick and lightheaded, and only boys can create that much chaos."
"I don't create chaos."
"You are chaos, Arthur." I looked up at him and kissed him sweetly, "Now go finish up you're meeting."
He went to the door, walking out before poking his head back in, "I love you."
"You already told me."
"I know."
He shut the door and I sighed, a smile on my face, "I love you too."
