"Danse, take left!"
As I clenched my jaw and leaned heavily against a barrier, I watched as he looked over his shoulder and shot a guy. I'd twisted my ankle pretty badly, but if I'd told Danse, he'd be distracted. He went on to fight the battle and I stayed put, trying my best to steady my breathing and convince myself that I was over-reacting. The gunfire ceased, and I saw Danse with his head raised, searching the grounds for me. I shouted for him and he was soon by my side, "That was some good fighting, soldier. These raiders won't be troubling us or these settlements any more." He frowned a little, "That Minutemen friend of yours ought to be pleased."
I smiled as best I could, "Damn right."
He frowned, "Are you all right?"
I nodded, biting my lip, "Yeah, I just fucked my ankle up a little bit. We need to get moving before these guys's friends realize they ain't comin' back."
I took a step and let out a yelp, moving my foot off the ground and standing on one foot, again leaning on the wall. Danse frowned, "May I carry you?"
"I can walk."
"That's not what I asked, soldier."
I chuckled a little, "Yeah, no thanks, Danse. I'm fine."
"No you are not. You ought to be careful. It is only a sprain now, but if you apply too much pressure to it, you may break it or injure it further. Now, let me carry you, soldier."
I stared at him stupidly, feeling a blush creep up on my cheeks. He smiled, "I will not do this as your Head Paladin, I will do this as your friend. I do not want you to risk injuring yourself more than you already have."
"Well, we could just throw a smoke grenade and call for a-"
Before I could finish speaking, he'd already swept me off my feet. Figuratively and literally. I wrapped my arms around his shoulders as my breath left me. He beamed down at me, "Now, it's just a short walk to a nearby bunker, so we can get there, and I can bandage you up. Then we can call for some backup and a Vertibird."
I was going to tell him we could just call for a Vertibird now, but I wasn't going to lose an opportunity to get closer to Danse. I looked up at him and could practically feel Cupid's arrow shoot through my heart and a blush form on my cheeks. I stared at his jaw and he looked down at me, frowning, "Are you alright?"
"Yeah, I, uh... I couldn't be better."
He chuckled airily, flustering me further, "Well, having your ankle fully able to function would be ideal."
I grinned, letting my arrogance get the better of me, "Yeah, baby, but being in your arms is better than 'ideal'."
"What?"
"What?"
"What did you say?"
I cleared my throat, "Nothing. Now about this bunker..."
