I stepped into the old theatrical building, Pacer practically attached to my hip. We pranked a few NCR fellas then bolted before any caps were shot off. I also got a job or two done for his boss, and came in to report. Me and Pacer slammed the front door, stifling laughter. Catching his breath, he went to the freezer, tossing me a beer and placing the other carefully in my hand.
"Give this to the King when you head up. It ain't that watered down shit." He winked vulgarly, "It'll make his lips real loose."
"You would know, wouldn't you?"
He chuckled, "Take the bottle 'fore I bash it on your head."
I rolled my eyes, thanking him, then making my way up the stairs. It was dark out, and the halls were dimly lit by pre-war lamps and some candles on desks. I knocked on The King's door and he said I could enter. I stepped in, seeing Rex. I smiled nervously, holding out his beer. He took it and raised a brow, "What'd you do this time?"
I chuckled, "Nothing. Me and Pacer just had some harmless fun, that's all. He said to bring you a beer so I did."
"He only brings me beer when he's messed up." He chuckled, taking a swig and resting a hand on Rex's back calmly, "So, you just come up to give me liquor and a good view or do you got some good news for me?"
I blushed, "Well, I finished up that job you sent me out to do. The Followers agreed to establish a supply line."
He looked to me, not saying anything, but studying me intently, "You're a real great gal, you know that?"
"I- uhm... Thanks."
"I'm being serious, doll. You got me dizzy."
I looked to the beer in his hand. He'd only taken one sip so I was positive that this was coming from his sober mind. I chuckled, "You're just ringing, sir."
"I am not! You're a real catch, dig?" I looked to the ground and he smiled, "Thanks for getting the job done. Dunno what I'd do without you out there, doing my dirty work for me..."
"Oh please... You give me a place to stay and food to eat. It's the least I could do."
He looked to Rex, who was drifting off at his feet, "How'd you feel about being the Queen to my King?"
I don't know what made that line different from his usual flirtations, but for some reason, it sent my mind into a frenzy. I couldn't think of anything to say and my heart was in my throat. He chuckled, "Turn any more red I might mistake you for that sunburnt doctor friend of yours."
I tucked a strand of hair behind my ear, "I- uhm... I just don't... What are you saying...?"
"I just asked if you'd like to be mine. I don't mind setting up a date. All you gotta do is let me."
"Yes! I mean, uh... That would be great."
Rex perked up, looking to me curiously. The handsome man next to me chuckled, "Sounds like a solid plan. You get on to bed now. I have plans to be makin'."
