I sat on a stool at our table, leaning back and fiddling with an old watch Nick got me a while back. Hancock sat next to me, and like a nurse, handed me object when I asked for them. I was actually somewhat amazed that he knew which was which. Deacon was in view, standing in the kitchen, and throwing bacon in a pan from a distance away so grease wouldn't pop onto him. He'd been burned that way too many times, and now took extra precaution when handling bacon grease. Hancock leaned back, playing with the end of his pocket knife, then using it to pick something out of his teeth, "So, uh, you two ever think of havin' kids?"
Deacon looked to him, "Why? Would you join us if we were making some?"
Hancock scoffed, "What kinda question is that? You know I would." Deacon chuckled and Hancock went on for a while about his mom and told me a little about his childhood, accepting light-hearted banter from Deacon, and gentle answers from myself. I finished up the watch, and gave it to him, him sliding it in his pocket, and leaving with a polite thank you. I dusted my shirt off, and sat on the counter next to where Deacon was cooking. I watched him peacefully, and he glanced to me, "So, about what Hancock said..."
I raised a brow, leaning back on my palms on the free counter space, "Which part?"
"I'm getting there." He paused for a moment, "When I was with Barbara, you know how I told you we were trying for kids? How we were gonna settle down...?"
"Mhmm."
"I think..." He trailed off, muttering the last part under his breath. I bit my lip in confusion and he sighed, "I think I'd like to do that with you." My brows shot up and he blushed, "Not now, of course, since we're both full of young blood and angst but... maybe sometime in the future...?"
"No..."
His eyes darted down and I put a hand on his shoulder, pulling him into a hug, "I mean... Definitely yes to settling down... but... How far into the future are we talking? If we're talking a long ways away, we both need to get tested... make sure we're both able to have kids before we just go at it."
"Hey, I like just going at it."
I chuckled, "Me too. And I'd really like to start a little family with you Deacon, but there's so much stuff we need to determine beforehand. Like... we'd need a bigger house, maybe somewhere safer... We'd need names, and clothes and whatnot, and right now, we just don't have the money."
"We can save up..."
"Yup. Then we can talk about having kids. Sound good?"
"Yeah. Here. Bacon's done." He took a piece off the plate, crunching it between his teeth and letting out a moan, "I am a god in the kitchen!"
