The 4 of us didn't say a single word to each other, not even a noise.Once they dropped me off at my house, I hopped out of the car and shut the door, still without a word spoken between us.
I walked slowly to my front door, releasing the breath I've been holding. I unlocked the door with my key then pulled the handle down, opening the door.
My lip quivered as my face squished together, I felt so much pressure on my chest, thinking about how I almost died.
My mom ran down the stairs with hope in her eyes, once she saw it was me and not Nicole, she sighed with a frown. Then she noticed my form, making her eyes widen.
MOM:
"Sweetie? Are you okay?" She went to me and held my arms.I shook my head as the tears collapsed down my cheeks.
Y/N:
"I...I almost..." I couldn't finish my sentence, a sob interrupted my speech. My mom quickly hugged me tightly, rubbing my back.
MOM:
"Hey, I'm here sweetie, you're alright. I have you." She spoke softly.I held onto her tightly, so afraid to let go.
She walked us over to the couch in the living room. Once we sat down, she did breathing exercises with me, slowly making my breaths return to normal. After a few minutes, they did.
She held my hands, looking at me intensively.
MOM:
"Can you tell me what happened?" She frowned.I took a shaky breath out as I wiped my teary face with my wrists.
Y/N:
"I..." I swallowed hard, "I went to the beach with...with the guys and...we..."I released another shaky breath as my eyes overflowed with tears again.
Y/N:
"We played this—stupid, stupid game of...who could hold their breath the longest and...I almost..."Her eyes widened as she connected the pieces in her head. Her whole face shined in worry as she squeezed my hands by accident.
MOM:
"You almost drowned?!" She yelled.I nodded as my lip quivered.
Y/N:
"I—I'm sorry..." I bursted out in another sob, making her hug me tightly again.MOM:
"It's not your fault...it's not your fault..." she held my head, "I'm just glad you're okay..."I took deep breaths again as we split apart.
MOM:
"What happened after that?" Her eyes filled with slight tears.Y/N:
"I...I woke up and...a lifeguard saved me..."MOM:
"Where was everyone else??" Her eyebrows squished together as her eyes had a hint of anger in them.Y/N:
"They were there they just..." I sighed as I frowned, "They froze...seeing me like that..."Her shoulders dropped as her eyes widened. My Mom's face was full of anger but it quickly distinguished.
MOM:
"That's normal sometimes..." she sighed, "They were probably worried about you."I nodded slowly.
Y/N:
"I just wish one of them would've saved me..." I spoke quietly while staring at my lap.MOM:
"Well, sometimes fear can take over someone and they don't know what to do. So, we can't judge someone based on that..." she looked deep in thought for a moment, "I'm sure they feel bad sweetie. So, don't let your anger take over like their fear did."
