Chapter 126 ? Distance

Start from the beginning

I released a shaky breath then walked to History.

"Okay, you only have 2 more classes where you have to ignore them. And at lunch, you can sit with Hannah and Sylvee." I thought to myself.

In History class, Nick behaved and looked to be in the same state as my other friends, making History class a very anxious time as well.

Eventually, it ended and it was time for French class. One more class where I had to be quiet in.

On the way to the French classroom, I turned the corner to see Wilbur and Zak talking near the lockers, making me hide behind the corner to avoid Wilbur. I couldn't help but eavesdrop on their conversation.

ZAK:
"I assume you know..." He spoke lowly while clenching his jaw.

WILBUR:
"Yep." He raised his eyebrows while looking tiredly at him.

ZAK:
"So...are we still friends...?" He looked nervously at him but tried hiding it.

WILBUR:
"Obviously dumbass." He looked off to the side hazily, "I don't care who you fuck."

ZAK:
"Well, he's not just a hookup...I...I really care about him...and I haven't really cared about anyone this way before...Darryl's special..." He lightly smiled.

WILBUR:
"I'm glad you're happy..." He turned his attention back to him.

ZAK:
"Are you...?"

WILBUR:
"No..." He mumbled while biting the inside of his cheek, "But that's my life, you know...? Can't expect a happy ending when all my life's been is shit..."

ZAK:
"Is it Y/N again?" His eyebrows squished together.

WILBUR:
"Isn't it always?" He looked off to the side again.

ZAK:
"What happened?"

WILBUR:
"What happened is she's different, and it's my fault..." He swallowed hard, "Her father was the one who showed me that...and now, me and those idiots can't be around her anymore..."

My heart fell as my eyes widened, my lips parted in shock.

ZAK:
"He forbid you guys from seeing her?"

WILBUR:
"Something like that..." He clenched his jaw tightly, "But even if he didn't...he had a point...Y/N hasn't been herself in a while, and even though her cursing and wearing those dark clothes is hot...I know that's not who she is...and I was too focused on lust to realize she was drowning..."

Slight tears formed in his eyes as he rolled his tongue over the inside of his cheek. Slight tears formed in my eyes too as I clenched my jaw.

ZAK:
"Damn..." He whispered, "I'm sorry, Wil..."

WILBUR:
"I don't wanna be in this class right now to see her..." He mumbled, "Wanna ditch?"

ZAK:
"Oh, I was actually planning on convincing Darryl to." He lightly chuckled, "You're more than welcome to come with us."

Wilbur nodded slowly as he pressed his lips together.

WILBUR:
"Why not? I'll make sure he's good enough for you."

Zak smiled widely, surprised that Wilbur was speaking well on his behalf.

ZAK:
"He's more than enough, trust me." He wrapped his arm around him, then the two of them walked away, farther from me.

Once they were out of my sight, I stepped forward to lean against the wall as I stared at the spot they were last.

I frowned while biting the inside of my cheek.

"My dad had a talk with them about me...? That must be the real reason why they all avoided me today..." I thought as I swallowed hard.

Instead of going to French class, I decided to ditch school too. I needed to speak to some important people.

I walked up to my front door, swung it open, and met eyes with my family instantly. My mother and father looked up from the couch, my sister turned towards me too from her chair next to them.

Their eyes widened at me as their shields came up, they tried hiding their true shocked and sad emotions.

I stepped closer to them as the tears filled my eyes instantly. I pressed my lips together while locking eyes with my mother.

Y/N:
"I'm sorry..." My lip quivered, "You were right...everything you guys said was true..."

My mother stood up and walked to me slowly.

Y/N:
"I'm not fine—" My face squished together as my voice cracked, "A—And I took it out on you...I'm sorry—"

I bursted out crying as I shut my eyes, letting my tears fall to the floor. My mom didn't hesitate to run to me, hugging me tightly as I cried on her shoulder.

MOM:
"I'm here...and I'll always be here..." She split apart from our hug to hold my cheeks, making us lock our teary eyes onto each other, "We're going to get you some help, okay...?"

I nodded, already knowing she was talking about a therapist. My mother engulfed me in a tight hug again and soon, my father and sister joined us.

I felt the love and support of my family, and that's how I knew that everything would be okay.
