ALLISON OPENED THE door to her house, urgently looking for her daughter after a phonecall that made her go home. "Claire?" She hollered, closing the door while her eyes immediately landed on the living room.
It was where she found Claire crouching down and looking at the shattered glass, pondering until her mother's arrival. She stood up from her position as Allison hurried over to embrace her, "Honey, are you okay?"
"I tried to stop him." Claire said. A part of her was still guilty of not being able to do so even when her Aunt Y/N gave a heads up.
The mess wasn't anywhere near subtle. It was as though they'd been burglarized -- if she considered her Uncle Klaus a burglar. There was no excuse to avoid Allison's worrying.
However, it was a relief to not find a scratch on her daughter. "It's okay. It's okay." She said softly, gently caressing Claire by the hair. "It's all right. It's not your fault, okay?" She reassured.
She pulled away from their embrace and looked at Clair in he eyes, "You need to understand, your Uncle has a disease. He's really, really sick." she explained with the best of her abilities. Despite her daughter growing, she still believed that Claire was still a little girl; still too young have to go through the darker side of their problems.
"What about you?"
But Claire was already ahead of her as she unexpectedly questioned her mother's whereabouts. "What happened to your face, Mom? Where were you?" She asked, worried as it was all so sudden. "Maybe it's time to look at your side of the street."
Her remark caught Allison off guard. She wasn't sure if she was actually hearing his from her daughter. "Excuse me?"
"If you know this, why do you keep letting him into your life? You need to address your inability to set healthy boundaries." Claire advised.
"Okay, little miss, you're a little too young to understand my relationship with my brother." Allison replied rather defensively. "Ever since we were kids, this is what he does -- he messes up. He gets in some shit. And who does he call? Me."
It was a tedious, unending cycle. Allison sometimes wished that she had a chance to step out. But the though of leaving Klaus alone made her face soften. "But he needs me," she said, "he needs us."
Although Claire remained uncertain, she knew to herself that her mother was right. If her Uncle Klaus wasn't someone lots have found very dear, her Mom wouldn't be worried like this; her Aunt Y/N wouldn't have called. But somehow, she couldn't be as concerned as they were. "Uncle Klaus is immortal, right?" She brought up.
"Yeah. So?"
"So why do you keep trying to save someone who can literally save himself?" Quipped Claire.
With pursed lips, Allison found herself in disbelief as she realized her daughter's wits never failed to prove her wrong. Still, she can't help but be amused to bear a child like Claire. "When did you get so smart?" She smiled, cupping Claire's face as if she was the most precious thing in the world.
Her lips played a smile as her mother's was contagious. "Guess I got it from my mom," Claire replied.
Allison let out a hearty chuckle, deeply adored by the person she raised before they tended to the scene her beloved brother had brought in. "What a mess," she sighed.
Claire was right. This should be the last time they were cleaning after him. They're gonna be fine on their own. And Klaus is gonna be fine on his own. After all, immortality was technically a free pass to do everything he wanted, right?
"So are we gonna look for him or...?"
"Maybe just this once."
