-Y/N's POV-
George and I walked together to the ice cream shop. When we arrived, I saw Nick leaning over the front counter, talking to the blonde cashier. She was giggling.
My eyes narrowed at them.
GEORGE:
"Oh this idiots here too." He lightly smiled at Nick.
I nodded then we walked up to the front to meet him.
Y/N:
"Hey Nick." I raised my eyebrows.
Nick turned around with widened eyes, like a deer caught in headlights. His eyes darted between me and George.
NICK:
"H—hey guys."
GIRL:
"So I'll see you tomorrow, Nick?" She smiled.
NICK:
"Yep." He quickly nodded then tried leaving but I grabbed his wrist.
Y/N:
"Wanna hangout with us?"
Nick glanced down at my stomach with a sigh.
NICK:
"I got homework to do..." He mumbled then pushed open the glass door and left before I could say anything else.
I sighed then we walked up to the front counter to meet the blonde girl.
GIRL:
"Hi. What could I could for you today?" She smiled while hovering her hand over the screen.
Suddenly, the manager appeared behind her.
PHILZA:
"These kiddos are here a lot." He chuckled, "I can type in their usuals for you today until you get a hang of things."
GIRL:
"Cool, less work for me." She raised her eyebrows, making the manager roll his eyes with a smile as he typed in our orders.
PHILZA:
"Alright, $6.16." He met our eyes.
George and I took out our dollar bills from our bags, 3 dollars to pay for each of us along with the change.
Philza collected the money and put it in the cash register then looked at the girl.
PHILZA:
"You can get them their orders, pumpkin."
GIRL:
"Yay..." she sarcastically said with a smile then she moved over to the station with all the flavors.
PHILZA:
"So, how've you kiddos been?" He smiled at us.
Y/N:
"Good, we haven't seen you here in a while though."
PHILZA:
"Yeah." He chuckled, "I've been at home with Kristin, taking care of the new member of the family, a little boy."
GIRL:
"Unfortunately..." we heard her faintly said.
Y/N:
"Awe, I'm happy for you." I giggled.
PHILZA:
"Thanks kiddo."
GIRL:
"Alright, your orders." She gave me George's order and gave George mine, making us lightly smile then switch our cups when she walked away.
Philza laughed in response.
PHILZA:
"You guys have a good one."
GEORGE:
"Thanks." He waved.
Once George and I said goodbye, we sat down at the closest table near the door.
Y/N:
"So...was I the only one thinking Nick was acting weird?" I ate a spoonful of my ice cream.
GEORGE:
"Yeah he um...kinda had a bad reaction to the whole...lie."
Y/N:
"He told you that?" My eyebrows squished together.
GEORGE:
"Yeah um...he wasn't too happy..."
Y/N:
"Well, after this I can tell him it was a lie. I'll try telling Clay today too so I don't stress them out too much."
George nodded and began eating his ice cream.
Once we were both done, he had to get home so his parents wouldn't suspect him of lying about where he was.
Meanwhile, I made my way to Nick's house. After several minutes of walking, I made it. When I did, I knocked on his front door and waited for someone to answer.
After a few moments, Nick swung the door open.
NICK:
"Hey..." he spoke lowly as he crossed his arms and leaned against the doorway.
Y/N:
"Hey. I have something to tell you. About the whole...you know."
NICK:
"I have something to tell you too about that very subject...you're so stupid."
My eyes widened as my expression dropped.
NICK:
"You're stupid for believing everything Wilbur said. You're stupid for having sex with him in the first place and for getting—" he sighed, not continuing his sentence as he glanced down at my stomach, "I'm disappointed in you, Y/N."
Y/N:
"Nick..."
NICK:
"You should've had your first with someone who loved you, not some worthless idiot. You're basically calling yourself worthless for thinking you deserved a guy like Wilbur to be your first. I wanted—" he stopped himself as he sighed, shaking his head.
I was silent, shocked at how serious he was being. Nick was the one I always joked around with, even in serious situations, but not this time. He left me speechless.
NICK:
"You betrayed yourself and you betrayed me for getting with that fucking dick—" he raised his voice, "You're just like my mom..."
My heart dropped even more.
Y/N:
"N—Nick, I'm not pregnant, I lied—"
His expression became angrier somehow.
NICK:
"What??"
Y/N:
"I lied to everyone to get back at Wilbur for everything he's done. I knew that if I had him in a tough position then I could make him leave us alone for good."
He rolled his tongue over the inside of his cheek as he glared at me, hard.
NICK:
"So you lied to us..." he nodded slowly.
Y/N:
"I had to. Otherwise, no one would've believed it. I needed your reactions. I'm sorry." I frowned.
Nick looked off to the side as he clenched his jaw.
NICK:
"So you came up with the lie...where'd you get the idea from, huh...?" He looked back at me.
Y/N:
"I don't know. It was just one of the first things that popped up in my head." I shrugged.
He nodded as slight tears began forming in his eyes.
NICK:
"Maybe it's cause you had some inspiration from my life..."
My eyes widened.
Y/N:
"N—no—it's not like that—" I stuttered.
NICK:
"Yeah it is..." he nodded, "You thought of this big plan and you were very specific with it...maybe because it's a reflection of my life because you knew that my mom told my dad sweet things which were all lies...and in the end, she left...just like Wilbur supposedly did..."
I gulped nervously as I frowned at him.
Y/N:
"N—Nick...I—"
NICK:
"Just leave me alone—" He shook his head, turned around and slammed the door in my face.
Tears warmed up in my eyes as I kept my eyes locked on the door. I blinked several times as the side of my mouth felt tingly. I sighed nervously as I raised my hand to knock on the door again when I hesitated. I knew he wouldn't wanna talk to me.
I swallowed hard then began walking away. I knew I needed to let Clay know ASAP. The longer I hold off, the more he'd turn into Nick, hating me.
When I was about to turn the corner, I heard my phone vibrate in my pocket. I took it out to see a text message from Clay.
CLAY:
Hey where are you rn??
I'm at your house
Y/N:
I got ice cream with George then stopped by Nick's
I'm on my way back
CLAY:
I can pick you up
Stay put
Y/N:
Okay
I waited near Nick's house until Clay pulled up. When he did, he opened the door for me from the drivers seat then I climbed in.
CLAY:
"Hey." He shut the door for me.
I buckled up.
Y/N:
"I need to tell you something." I frowned.
CLAY:
"Okay, well before you do, I have something to tell you too. But let's get to a better place." He began driving away, "Are you hungry?"
Y/N:
"A little."
CLAY:
"Okay, we can stop for some food then we can go somewhere private."
I grinned as a thought took over. I couldn't help but giggle.
CLAY:
"What?" He smiled at me.
Y/N:
"That sounded a little...naughty."
His eyebrows squished together as his smile widened.
Y/N:
"Like taking out the girl for food then going somewhere a little more private..."
Clay immediately connected the pieces in his head and let out a loud wheeze.
CLAY:
"Y—Y/N—" he laughed, "Wow. I didn't mean it like THAT."
I laughed back.
Shortly, we made it to my favorite restaurant. Clay paid for our food then drove us to the bridge we used to go to as kids, the same one he lost his keys at.
When we exited the car, I grabbed my food bag.
Y/N:
"I think I should hold onto the keys this time." I grinned.
Clay scoffed with a smile as he shook his head then tossed me the keys. I caught them with a smile and slipped them into my pocket then we walked to the bridge and sat down, laying our food bags down.
Y/N:
"Okay, so first things first, thank you for the food."
CLAY:
"Of course. That's just a little something of what's to come."
Y/N:
"What's to come?" My eyebrows squished together as I unwrapped my meal.
CLAY:
"Yeah. So..." he took a deep breath, "Ive been applying for jobs ever since you told me about the whole...pregnancy thing—and, I wanna let you know that you're not alone in this."
He held my hand, making my eyes widen at the action and what he said.
CLAY:
"I'll support you and help you pay for things. And, we could do college online together. I'm not exactly sure who's house we would live at. Maybe alternate? I'm not sure on all the details but—"
Y/N:
"Clay..." I said in awe.
CLAY:
"Look..." he looked at our intertwined fingers, "I know I'm not the dad but...I just wanna help anyway I can and..." he sighed, "I just wanna be everything my dad wasn't, you know...?"
I frowned while looking down at our hands.
CLAY:
"So, I wanna be there and support you and...I just wanna help...especially because I know first hand that being a single mom ain't easy. I see that in my mom everyday and...I don't want you going through this alone like she had to..."
I sat there, frozen by everything that he said.
Y/N:
"Clay you..." I laughed as my eyebrows squished together, "You'd seriously do all that for me...? You'd give up everything...??"
CLAY:
"Of course I would." He squeezed my hand lightly, "Y/N, you're everything to me."
I sadly smiled with a blush, feeling guilty for the rug I'm about to sweep out from under his feet.
Y/N:
"That..." I sighed, "That means a lot...more than you know...you're gonna make a great father some day..."
His lips curled up with a blush.
Y/N:
"But that day isn't today..." I frowned, "I'm not pregnant...I lied."
Clay's eyes slowly widened as he started to process what I was saying.
CLAY:
"W—wait you...?"
Y/N:
"I did it to get back at Wilbur for everything he's done. I figured I could make a deal with him to make him leave us alone."
CLAY:
"Wait, so you didn't sleep with him??"
Y/N:
"Of course not." I cringed.
Clay quickly hugged me tightly.
CLAY:
"Thank you, thank you, thank you—" he said excitedly, making me laugh as my eyebrows squished together.
He let go of me.
CLAY:
"You don't realize the weight that just got lifted off of my shoulders."
Y/N:
"Really? I thought you'd be mad that I lied."
CLAY:
"All I care about is you didn't lose your virginity to someone like Wilbur." He sighed out in relief with a smile.
Y/N:
"So, you're not mad?"
CLAY:
"No. That means I don't have to get a job." He laughed.
I laughed back.
CLAY:
"How the hell was your acting so good though?? You had me fooled."
Y/N:
"Thank the drama classes I took in middle school." I grinned.
CLAY:
"God." He wheezed, "I never paid attention in those classes."
Y/N:
"Maybe you should've." I shrugged, making him wheeze again.
I smiled at his laugh. It always made me smile hearing it or seeing him make the cute face when he did.
Wait...cute...??
My eyes widened at my thought, making my smile fade.
Y/N:
"Anyways um...thank you for not being mad at me...and, for stepping up like that...that, really means a lot..."
CLAY:
"Of course. Like I said, I'll support you no matter what." He smiled.
Y/N:
"Wish everyone else felt that way..." I frowned.
CLAY:
"Wait, George and Nick know?" He sat up a little.
Y/N:
"Yeah. George already knew I wouldn't do something like that with Wilbur and Nick he..." I sighed, "He went off on me..."
CLAY:
"Well, give him time. He'll come around."
Y/N:
"I don't know...he was so serious and..." I sighed again, "He said I based my lie off of his life and...looking back...I guess I kinda did..."
Clay frowned as he looked deep in thought at our still intertwined hands.
Y/N:
"I didn't mean to base it off his life—it—it's just the first thing I thought of...what if he hates me, Clay?" My lips curled down farther as tears started to form in my eyes.
CLAY:
"Hey," he spoke softly, "He could never hate you."
Y/N:
"You didn't see him...he looked at me a certain way...he's never looked at me like that before..." my tears fell down my cheeks, "What if I lost him...??"
Clay held my cheeks, wiping them away.
CLAY:
"Hey, you didn't lose him, you could never lose any of us Y/N, I promise."
I sniffled with a frown.
CLAY:
"He was just upset but everything will be alright."
I leaned my forehead against Clay's, making his eyes widen as I shut my eyes.
Y/N:
"I'm tired...I'm so tired Clay..." I said quietly.
He frowned then held my cheeks tighter, rubbing his thumbs on them in a nurturing way.
CLAY:
"One more year...then everything will be alright. You'll always have me by your side, Y/N. Even if you piss me off or even if I piss you off, I'm still gonna..."
I opened my eyes to meet with his.
-CLAY's POV-
Love you.
CLAY:
"I'm still gonna be there for you..." I lightly smiled.
She sniffled as she kept her forehead resting on mine. Slowly, she split apart and leaned her head on my shoulder, making my eyes widen and my cheeks heat up.
Y/N:
"Clay...promise me that..." she took a deep breath as she frowned at the water, "Promise me that nothing will get in the way of us...not school, not outside sources...and..."
She swallowed hard as she shifted uncomfortably.
Y/N:
"Your future wife..." she said quietly.
I frowned while trailing my eyes down to the water.
Y/N:
"Promise me...please..." she held up her pinky finger slowly.
I nodded slowly then intertwined her pinky with mine.
CLAY:
"Promise..." I said quietly.
She released the breath she was holding. I expected her to let go of my finger but instead, she intertwined all of our fingers again as she shifted to get more comfortable on my shoulder.
Y/N:
"Don't settle for less either...okay...?" She frowned.
I swallowed hard as I decided to test my luck.
CLAY:
"I'll try marrying someone like you then." I lightly chuckled, "Smart...beautiful...funny..."
She tilted her head to meet my eyes as we both frowned at each other.
CLAY:
"Perfect..." I sadly smiled.
She sadly smiled back at me with a blush.
Y/N:
"So you're gonna marry yourself?" She joked.
I laughed as my blush expanded.
CLAY:
"That would be interesting wouldn't it? Who knows? Maybe my future wife is a variant of myself from another universe like in 'Loki'." I joked, making her laugh and squeeze my hand a little.
Y/N:
"She'd have black hair."
CLAY:
"How are you so sure?" I smiled down at her.
Y/N:
"Well, Sylvie had blonde hair and Loki had black. So that's how it works, I'm assuming."
CLAY:
"Not all the variants had blonde hair."
Y/N:
"Well how am I supposed to know, silly. I never finished the show." She giggled.
CLAY:
"Maybe we could watch it together."
She tilted her head up to meet my eyes as she sweetly smiled.
Y/N:
"Maybe we can..."
We smiled at each other wish blushes across both of our faces.
Somehow, someway, Y/N makes me fall more in love with her everyday. Whether that's her lips curling up every time she gets a good grade or her cute laugh...or her smile that could light up a room, or simple things like holding my hand or laying her head on my shoulder...there's always something that makes me fall for her harder.
Boy oh boy, was I screwed.
