-Y/N's POV-
The nurses let Clay stay with me to explain everything that happened while I was gone. I ended up telling him afterwards what happened in my dream and how real it felt. We additionally spoke about Wilbur, the accident and more.
My crush laid beside me in the hospital bed by my request. We held on to each other while we talked.
CLAY:
"What're you gonna do about Wilbur...?" He asked quietly.
My eyes fell to the sheet.
Y/N:
"It's not my problem anymore..." I spoke lowly, "The scary thing is...Minx could've been me...if I chose to neglect my own morals for Wilbur...my whole life would've been ruined..."
Clay swallowed hard at me.
Y/N:
"You were right..." I tilted my head up to meet my eyes, "I've been putting Wilbur before you guys and...it wasn't fair...now...I just wanna focus on you guys again...I shouldn't have put Wilbur first for a little while...I'm sorry Clay..."
I frowned at him while clenching my jaw. His gaze softened on me as he looked my face up and down.
CLAY:
"Don't apologize..." He took a deep breath in, "You did what you thought was best...you've been trying to make everyone happy at the same time and...I know it's been hard on you..."
I felt slight tears warm up in the corners of my eyes while staring at him, feeling some relief that he understood me.
CLAY:
"I know you're doing your best to make everyone happy at the same time...I know you're trying to decide on who you want to end up with...I know things haven't been fair...I know I haven't exactly been supportive..." His lips curled down, "I'm sorry Y/N...I should've been a better friend..."
I nodded slowly, the tears almost overflowing.
Y/N:
"Clay...I wasn't going to go on a date with Wilbur unless I got your blessing because...your opinions matter to me..." We locked eyes, "I...I don't want to disappoint you or...be viewed as an idiot or...let you down..."
CLAY:
"Hey," His eyebrows squished together as he frowned, he lifted his hand to cup my cheek, being perfectly in sync with my tears collapsing, "No matter who you choose, I won't be disappointed in you...I just want you to end up with someone who deserves you...I doubt Wilbur does but..."
My eyes fell to the tile.
CLAY:
"I'm not saying the right thing..." He sighed, "I'm sorry...it's been...a rough week..."
I nodded slowly.
Y/N:
"We should get some rest..."
He nodded and began to get off the bed, making me frown.
Y/N:
"Can you..." I spoke quietly, capturing his attention, "Can you stay with me please...?"
CLAY:
"Really...?"
I nodded again. Clay's lips curled up a little, then he laid back down, wrapped his arm around my shoulder and cuddled with me. I rested my head against his chest to hear his heartbeat, just in case. It eventually calmed me down enough and after a few minutes, my eyes began to close.
Y/N:
"I love you, Clay..." I spoke tiredly.
CLAY:
"I love you too..." He kissed my head softly.
Soon, the both of us fell asleep in each other's arms.
• 1 Week Later •
I had to stay in the hospital for a week to recover from my surgery. My best friends were by my side the whole time, I spent my days holding on to Clay the most, since I was still freaked out by the nightmare I had of him.
After my week of recovery, the doctors told me I was in good enough shape to head home and go back to school.
I was glad my body healed quickly since the talent show was now this week. Clay and I needed to practice, and I also needed to talk to Nick about what we were going to do for the competition.
My parents were hesitant to let me go back to school, but for once, I wanted to go. So, they trusted me and let me go back.
•••••
It was now Monday morning. Once my alarm woke me up, I shut it off, climbed out of bed and began getting ready for the day. I applied my makeup, curled my hair and got dressed like usual. It felt like forever since I've done this, it felt amazing to be back to normal.
You wore this:
Once I was done getting ready, I made my way downstairs. I passed by my family like usual, and we said our I love you's.
Then, I walked out the door to see Clay's white car, fully restored by the help of my parents. I froze once I saw the car, in shock to see it again after the accident. My expression fell as I stared at it with a frown, squishing my eyebrows together. I swallowed hard, remembering that night.
I didn't even notice Clay walking up to me. He held my hands gently.
CLAY:
"You okay?" His lips curled down, knowing how I was feeling.
I met his eyes and nodded hesitantly.
Y/N:
"Just...remembering what happened..."
CLAY:
"Trust me, I didn't want to get behind the wheel again but...my mom and aunt helped me out. This time, I'll be more careful."
I nodded again.
CLAY:
"You look...hot, today, by the way..." His lips curled up by staring at me from head to toe.
Y/N:
"Thanks but...no matter how hot I look, please keep your eyes on the road..."
CLAY:
"Promise." He tilted his head and held up his pinky finger.
I couldn't help but smile as I lifted my hand to combine our fingers, pinky swearing him back. Soon, he wrapped his arm around my shoulder, kissed my head gently, and lead us to the car.
Once we made it to the sidewalk, George opened the door for me like usual, and I hopped inside. Clay shut the door behind me and walked over to the driver's side.
NICK:
"Looking smokin wifey." He joked.
GEORGE:
"I agree." He blushed.
Y/N:
"Thanks." I sadly smiled at them, then attached my seatbelt.
Clay climbed in the car shortly and took off for school. He ended up keeping his promise. The whole time, he kept his eyes locked on the road and didn't look at anything else once.
When we finally made it to school, the four of us climbed out of the vehicle, shut the doors and walked side by side to the building.
Y/N:
"I have good news, Nick." I looked at him.
NICK:
"What's that?"
Y/N:
"You owe me a date." I grinned.
Nick's cheeks shined red as he smiled cutely.
NICK:
"You're right."
Y/N:
"After school, you're mine." I smiled.
NICK:
"You're on." He chuckled.
I instantly shot my head to Clay, soon realizing that I was flirting with Nick in front of him. Instead of Clay looking tense like always, he seemed relax and content. That brought a smile to my face and made me relax as well.
Once the four of us went inside, Clay and I parted ways with them to head to Chemistry. As we walked side by side down the halls, I spoke up.
Y/N:
"I'm proud of you."
CLAY:
"For what?"
Y/N:
"For not getting jealous just now. My little Clay block is growing up." I pouted while smiling, squeezing his cheek.
Clay wheezed and patted my hand away. I let go and once I did, we made it to the Chemistry classroom. We took our seats in the back and spoke with Jack, updating him on everything that's happened. Eventually, class began and Ms. Erikson began teaching. I had to admit, I did miss her.
After a while, the class ended by the ring of the bell. Everyone packed up their belongings and right before I was about to leave, I kissed Clay's cheek, making him shoot his head to me with a blush.
Y/N:
"See you later." I grinned.
CLAY:
"See ya." He smiled widely as his cheeks shined redder.
I waved to him and he waved back.
Shortly, I made my way to Math class. When I made it, I saw George in his seat at the front of the room then sat down next to him.
Y/N:
"Hey."
GEORGE:
"Hi." His head shot up from his journal, "Are you feeling okay?"
Y/N:
"Yep." I nodded, "I have a headache still but pretty sure that's from Ms. Erikson's 1,000 note pages."
George laughed at my joke and soon, Darryl spoke up from behind me. George and I filled him in on why I was gone for a week, just like with Jack. After a few minutes, our teacher came in and began teaching us useless math equations.
Class went by extremely fast today. Before I knew it, the bell rung. All the students began packing away their belongings and leaving, including me. George and I waved to each other then I made my way to History class.
When I arrived, I saw Nick with his eyes narrowed at his phone, like he was focused on something. I instantly smiled then walked over to him.
Y/N:
"Hey hubby."
Nick's eyes widened as his head shot up.
NICK:
"H—Hey." He laughed nervously and slipped his phone away in his back pocket.
Y/N:
"Well that was suspicious." I raised my eyebrows with a smile.
He breathed out with a smile.
NICK:
"I was just looking up some information about the place I wanna have our first date at."
Y/N:
"Awe." I blushed, my heart melting inside, "Honestly you don't even need to plan anything. I'm just glad we're finally doing this."
NICK:
"Really...?"
Y/N:
"Of course. It feels like you and I haven't hungout in forever. I missed my hubby." I held his hand, making it heat up as he smiled cutely at me with the biggest blush.
After a few moments of us being unable to look away from each others eyes, Mr. Cohen walked in the room and soon, he started teaching.
Throughout the lesson, I couldn't help but stare at Nick. I didn't know what it was about today but I felt so drawn to him, more than usual. He caught me staring multiple and admired me back throughout the class.
Once the bell rung, I grabbed Nick's hand and pulled him out of the classroom.
NICK:
"What're you—" He asked as we turned the corner into the empty guidance counselors room.
I cut him off by pushing him gently into the corner, in between the wall and the glass. I raised my hands to cup his cheeks, slightly moving my fingers through his hair. His eyes widened at my action as his cheeks faded into tomatoes.
NICK:
"Well, someone's excited for our date." He laughed.
Y/N:
"I am." I grinned while staring directly at his lips.
As if his cheeks couldn't become more red, they did.
Y/N:
"Wanna skip class?"
Nick's expression turned even more shocked and nervous. I was surprised but happy that I could have such a big effect on him.
NICK:
"R—Really?"
Y/N:
"Mhm." I nodded while smiling, twirling some strands of his hair with my fingers.
NICK:
"O—Okay. Could I use the bathroom real quick?"
Y/N:
"Of course. Meet me on the roof." I giggled.
He nodded with a smile then we parted ways. I soon made my way down the halls.
I knew the roof was mine and George's special place but, it was the only place where I knew Nick and I wouldn't get interrupted nor in trouble since no one ever goes up there.
When I made it up the stairs, I noticed two girls standing on the roof, out looking the view, making me stop in my tracks as my eyes widened. I hid behind the green door that was closed, leaving the opened one untouched.
PUFFY:
"It's impressive that you made him actually believe you." She laughed.
MINX:
"I know right? Boys are stupid." She chuckled while grabbing a cigarette from the box on the ledge.
"What're they talking about?" I thought as my eyebrows squished together.
PUFFY:
"So, how far are you gonna go?" She inhaled the smoke from her cigarette then breathed it out.
MINX:
"I feel like I could go pretty far. All I have to do is buy fake bellies and stuff. Then I can trap him." She grinned.
"Fake bellies?" I cringed, "What is she talking about?" I thought.
PUFFY:
"What if Wilbur doesn't wanna stick around? Then what?"
MINX:
"Then I'll make him." She raised her eyebrows while lighting her cigarette with a lighter from her pocket.
That's when it occurred to me and all the pieces of the puzzle connected in my head.
Minx was never pregnant. She lied so that Wilbur would be with her. That meant that Clay and I got in that accident because of Minx. I almost lost my best friend because of her, I had to get brain surgery because of her, causing everyone I love to be in pain, and I went off on Wilbur because of her. She hurt the ones I love.
My nose twitched as I glared at them, hard. I instantly stood up and went at them.
Y/N:
"Hey!" I yelled, capturing their attention.
The both of them jerked their heads around to see me walking towards them.
Y/N:
"You were never pregnant were you?? You set this whole thing up and lied just to get with Wilbur??" I snapped.
MINX:
"Awe, the little girl finally paid attention for once." She pouted while smiling, tilting her head.
Y/N:
"Wilbur's gonna be furious with you when he finds out what you did. That's a horrible thing to do to a person..."
MINX:
"Oh? If it's so horrible, then why'd you do the same exact thing?" She smiled while getting close to my face, "You told the whole school that Wilbur got you pregnant and that he was going to abandon you."
I swallowed hard while clenching my jaw, staring into her eyes.
Y/N:
"I didn't lie to him about it..."
MINX:
"Yeah but it ruined his whole reputation...you and I are the same Y/N except one of us is a spoiled little slut who plays with boys feelings. And the other one? Has to actually work for what she wants instead of it being laid down on the table for her..."
My eyes narrowed at her as I blinked slowly. The wind blew through my hair slightly.
MINX:
"You can go to Wilbur and tell him all about my lie but he won't believe you. After all, you're the girl that got away from him...he didn't care about you then, why would he care about you now?"
Y/N:
"He's changed..." I spoke lowly.
MINX:
"Awe, Puffy—she's trying to have her main character moment." She pouted while smiling back at her friend, "Boys don't change Y/N and you certainly didn't make him change. Wilbur's still the same guy he was all those years ago when he was bullying you and one of these days, you'll learn the truth for yourself."
Y/N:
"Why do you even like him...?" I glared hard at her.
MINX:
"Same reason you do. He's hot, popular and the sex is amazing. It's the only thing he can do right." She raised her eyebrows with a grin.
Y/N:
"That's not why I like Wilbur." I rolled my eyes.
MINX:
"Oh really...?" She stepped closer to me, "What's his favorite color?"
My expression fell a little.
MINX:
"What career does he want when he's older...?" I had no answer, "How many kids does he want?"
I swallowed hard, feeling guilty that I didn't know any of those answers.
MINX:
"Exactly." She scoffed, "Don't be a hypocrite, Y/N. You're just like me and you know it."
Minx and Puffy grabbed their backpacks and swung them over their shoulders. They began walking away but Minx stopped and came back to me.
MINX:
"By the way..." She spoke lowly in my ear, "If you even think about telling our little conversation to anyone...you'll end up worse than you did in that hospital bed..."
I gulped nervously as slight tears started to form in my eyes. Minx and Puffy smiled at each other then left, shutting the doors behind them, leaving me alone on the roof as the wind blew through my hair, along with my thoughts blowing through my head on what to do.
