-Y/N's POV-
My eyes fluttered open to hear the sound of an alarm clock. I was in the same position I was when I fell asleep, securely wrapped in Clay's arms, bringing me butterflies. He shortly let go of me to turn to the left, shutting his alarm off. He laid back down and rubbed his eyes.
Y/N:
"Morning."
He shot his head to the right to meet my eyes. Clay smiled once he saw me.
CLAY:
"Morning. How'd you sleep?" His deep voice spoke.
Y/N:
"Good, thanks." I sat up, running my hands through my hair to get the strands out of my face.
I noticed George and Nick fast asleep on the ground, in their sleeping bags. I couldn't help but softly smile at them, hazily. After all, boys were cute when they were sleeping, especially mine.
Shortly, I blinked several times to wake myself up more. Once I was in better shape, I glanced at George to see Patches sleeping on his chest, making me pout while smiling. Clay sat up and saw it too, he huffed out a smile.
Y/N:
"Looks like you're not the favorite anymore." I joked, resulting in him rolling his eyes with a scoff.
Soon, Clay and I got out of bed, waking up our friends while we were at it and after a few minutes, each of us got ready for the day.
I grabbed some older clothes from Clay's top dresser drawer then went into his bathroom to get dressed, do my makeup then do my hair.
My curls were as perfect as always, my makeup light as usual and eventually, I took off my pajamas to put on my day outfit.
You wore this:
When I was done getting ready, I went downstairs to meet my friends. The 4 of us ate breakfast together, mainly just cereal. Once we were done, we hopped in Clay's car and took off for school.
•••••
Once we arrived, we climbed out of Clay's vehicle, shut the doors behind us, then walked side by side to the school building. Nick and George were on my left side, Clay on my right.
NICK:
"So um...now that the break is over, does that mean your break with Wilbur is over too?"
I shot my head up to meet Nick's gaze.
Y/N:
"Oh um, yeah."
CLAY:
"You still haven't gone on a date with him."
My eyes trailed over to George. He blinked slowly at me while biting the inside of his cheek. I swallowed hard then met eyes with Clay.
Y/N:
"We should hurry. Don't want to be late to Ms. Erikson's class..." I took Clay by the wrist and jogged towards the school with him, leaving the others behind.
-NICK's POV-
George sighed while staring at our friends running away.
NICK:
"You know she won't go on a date with him because of you."
GEORGE:
"I know that, idiot." He scoffed while crossing his arms.
NICK:
"Why don't you give her your permission?"
George narrowed his eyes at me.
GEORGE:
"I already hated the idiot before and the last time I saw him, he almost killed me, literally. He made us get trapped in a freezer."
NICK:
"Yeah, but, he didn't mean to."
GEORGE:
"You two are so buddy-buddy now, huh?" He glared at me.
NICK:
"George..."
GEORGE:
"Look—" He stopped walking, making me stop too, "Y/N can go out with whoever she wants. She doesn't need my permission."
NICK:
"Yeah, but she needs your support." I raised my eyebrows, "As her friend...she needs your support in her decisions she chooses to make..."
George clenched his jaw while swallowing hard.
NICK:
"George...I've known for a while that Y/N won't pick me, and...I've had to learn to be okay with that..."
His eyebrows squished together as his annoyed expression turned into a frown.
NICK:
"Even if she does pick me, somehow, someway..." I pressed my lips together, "I'd rather be surprised and happy then know from the start...George...Y/N's grown up...we all have, and...growing up means not bitching about the things you can't control..."
George clenched his jaw tighter.
NICK:
"Even if you serenade her, even if you save her life, even if you two are the only people somehow left on Earth...she still wouldn't choose you."
Slight tears formed in his eyes, he looked like he was about to punch me.
NICK:
"George...it doesn't matter what you say or do...what matters is Y/N's heart...her heart will lead her to where it needs to go...and you have to accept the fact that it probably won't be you..."
I was being harsh on him, but he needed to hear it.
NICK:
"She could end up walking down the aisle to Clay, she could kiss him and have sex with him—"
He shut his eyes with a sigh.
NICK:
"Or she could choose to do all that with Wilbur or...even me..." I spoke quietly, "But the fact is, George...one day, she's walking down that aisle. And if you want to be invited to see her be happy...I'd suggest you start being a better friend and support her decisions...even if you don't agree with them..."
George's eyes fell to the concrete.
NICK:
"You don't even realize how much shit I've done for you." I raised my eyebrows.
GEORGE:
"What?" He shot his head up.
NICK:
"Yeah. In the past, you've made dumb decisions and I've stuck by you anyway even though I didn't want to support them." I placed my hands in my pockets.
GEORGE:
"Like what?" He scoffed, not believing me.
I took a deep breath.
NICK:
"Remember the day in 6th grade when you found out what a penis was, so you wanted it tattooed on you because you thought it would make you a badass?" I raised an eyebrow.
George huffed out a smile while shaking his head.
NICK:
"Well obviously I didn't support that. It made me think you were gay for about a month but—" George lightly laughed, "The point is, no matter how dumb I thought that idea was, I stuck by you. And when you got a temporary tattoo of it, everyone made fun of you, but I was the one who said I'd kick everyone's ass if they laughed at you."
He nodded slowly.
NICK:
"What I'm trying to say is...a true friend is someone who wants you to be happy. Even if they want to make dumb decisions and even though you know it's stupid...you just have to support them...they need someone who believes in them. Y/N's always had your back...with bullying, with your parents...with everything...and she's always believed in you..."
George bit the inside of his cheek as he frowned at me.
NICK:
"She's been a true friend to you, to all of us, so...if she's walking down that aisle...are you in the stands supporting her...? Or are you at home, crying because you think it should've been you...?"
He swallowed hard, he was silent for a few moments. Instead of answering me, George walked away, making me sigh and shut my eyes.
-GEORGE's POV-
I went away from Nick to talk to someone better. Soon, I made my way to the football field and like I thought, he was there, sitting on the bleachers, smoking a cigarette.
I took a deep breath, then climbed on up to get to him. Once I was near him enough, Wilbur turned his head to meet my gaze. His eyes widened as he removed the cigarette from his lips.
GEORGE:
"I hate you..." I bit the inside of my cheek.
Wilbur's eyes fell to the bleachers as he nodded slowly.
WILBUR:
"That makes two of us..." He whispered while getting rid of the cigarette.
I sighed, then sat down next to him.
GEORGE:
"I didn't deserve all of what you did to me..." I clenched my jaw while staring out at the football field, the wind slightly swaying through my hair.
WILBUR:
"You're right...I started bullying you guys because I felt like you took Y/N away from me but...looking back, I was just a kid...and that little boy grew up knowing how evil the world was..." He nodded slowly, "And he took all his pain out on you..."
I swallowed hard.
WILBUR:
"And at the end of the day...it didn't make things better...it didn't make me feel better..." He messed with his fingers while looking down at them.
GEORGE:
"If you really loved her back then...how could you hurt someone you love like that...? Over and over again..." I glared at him.
He scratched his chin.
WILBUR:
"Because that little boy didn't know what love was...and all he knew was hatred..." He whispered, "He never received love...and the one time he did...he doesn't remember..."
My eyes fell to the bleachers as I sighed.
WILBUR:
"I don't remember my mum..." Slight tears began forming in his eyes, "I don't remember anything of the one time I was truly happy in my life...the only time I was truly happy...was the day I met Y/N..."
My lips curled down as I stared hard at my lap.
WILBUR:
"As we all grew up...I watched you guys every day...I watched you make her laugh..." He pressed his lips together, "I watched her parents take care of you...I saw it all...and I wished I could've had it all...I wanted everything you had...family meals together at dinner time...the radiant star herself...and good friends that would be there for you no matter what..."
I released a shaky breath.
GEORGE:
"You had Zak and Floris...?"
WILBUR:
"Oh...? The ones who told me to get over it? That my feelings didn't matter? What great friends I had..." He mumbled.
Everything Wilbur was telling me, made me feel bad. It made me feel like I've been the villain of his life when he's always been mine.
WILBUR:
"This year...Zak has changed though...and the only reason why is because of Darryl...and now I'm here...trying to change for Y/N...because I want her to look at me the way she looks at you..." He whispered.
My eyes widened a little as I swallowed hard.
GEORGE:
"H—How does she look at me...?" I asked quietly.
WILBUR:
"Like you're her whole world..." He bit his lip, "When she looks at you, even for a second...she has a spark in her eye...and I catch it. Every. Single. Time..."
My cheeks heated up along with my palms.
WILBUR:
"I could see her feelings for a while...even before she admitted them this year...she's been in love with you guys ever since you were kids...but I don't think she knew it was love...but I could tell..."
GEORGE:
"How...?" I whispered.
WILBUR:
"I didn't know what love was...but I knew it was something good...and the way she's been around you guys..." He nodded slowly, "That's how I found out what it was...it was the opposite of my whole life..."
I gulped nervously.
WILBUR:
"I've never been loved by anyone...but I know she loves you and that's why I wanted to get all of your guys' approval...because..." He shook his head, "I wanted to know if there was good in me...if you saw me and if you were nice to me for once...then that would've proved it...that there is good in me...I wanted to be better for her...but if there is good in me...Y/N's the one who planted it there...she planted the pretty flowers around my grave heart...and the part of me that is good...I like to think it's when the sun comes out after the rain and dries the flowers...making them grow into something beautiful..."
I looked at him in shock. He really did love her. I placed my hand on his shoulder suddenly.
GEORGE:
"There is good in you..." I admitted.
He met my eyes as more tears filled his.
WILBUR:
"How do you know...?" He whispered.
GEORGE:
"Because...I wouldn't be giving you my permission to go out with her if I didn't see any good in you..." I sadly smiled.
Wilbur's eyes widened as his lips parted in shock.
WILBUR:
"R—Really...?"
GEORGE:
"Yeah..." I nodded, "But you owe me a redo date before her since the last one was trash."
Wilbur chuckled while shaking his head, making me laugh too, letting my hand fall off his shoulder.
WILBUR:
"Sounds good. You free tonight?"
GEORGE:
"Yep."
WILBUR:
"It's a date, then." He grinned, resulting in me laughing again, "I'll pick you up at 8."
GEORGE:
"If you're one minute late, I'm ditching you."
WILBUR:
"You'd already be home, how would you ditch me?" His eyebrows squished together.
GEORGE:
"By going out by back door, duh, idiot."
The two of us laughed together and shortly, I stood up.
GEORGE:
"I'm going to class."
WILBUR:
"Alright. See you tonight, baby." He joked with a wink, making me scoff and walk away.
That guy was something else. But that something else was good.
