THE E/C EYED girl thought it was best to bring her pager with her as she has to be alert when the station paged her. If she missed one call from them, then it's bye-bye career for her.
She drove away with her motorbike on the loose. Thankfully, the whole town was quiet and there were no traffic enforcers around.
When she got to Griddy's, she saw Five sitting on a stool, waiting for the waitress to come. Another man in his 40s showed up. The both of them, the girl and the guy, approached the counter and sat down on the stools.
Y/N sat down a seat apart from the boy quietly. Five glanced up at her who was minding her own business. He wondered why they weren't even engaging a conversation. They know each other, but with this kind of silence, they just feel like they were two strangers.
Until an old lady with a pink uniform came out from the employee's door, "Sorry, the sink was clogged." Her voice was sweet and perky. It made Y/N comfortable and weirded out at the same time.
"So, what'll it be?" She asked as she readied her notepad.
"Uh, give me a chocolate éclair." The man ordered. The waitress hummed softly as she wrote his order on the notepad, "Can I get the kids some milk or something?" She referred to Y/N and Five.
The girl was triggered hearing her say that she was a kid. But she thought it wasn't worth it. "The kid wants coffee. Black." Five scoffed.
The waitress stared at the boy, dumbfounded. She chuckled nervously, "O-okay.. Now, I suppose you want an espresso shot?" The woman joked. But no one laughed.
"Well, yes, actually. Oh, and make it a double."
The old lady looked at her strangely and then at the old man. "Cute kids," she chuckled nervously as she pointed out Five and Y/N.
The both of them smiled creepily and awkwardly at her. The man had no choice but to nod. "Okay." She said quietly as she went to grab their orders.
Five sighed and turned his attention to the man. "Don't remember this place being such a shithole." He recalled, "I used to come here as a kid. Used to sneak out with my brothers and sisters and eat doughnuts till we puked. Simpler times, huh?"
The man still had no idea what this boy's deal is. But he agreed with him anyway, "I suppose."
"So, is that your sister or something?" He pointed at Y/N. The girl looked back at them when she heard Five and the man talking about her. "Not exactly."
Soon, the lady was back with there orders, "Here." She said as she disseminated them. The girl was about to pay, but the guy beat her to it. "I got theirs."
"Thanks." The both of them said in unison. Five looked over to his vest to see 'Ishmael's Towing' embroidered on it. "You must know your way around the city."
Once again, Y/N just listened to their whole conversation. Don't get her wrong, she's been wanting to talk to him, catch up with things. But what was there to talk about?
"I hope so. I've been doing it for 20 years." The man replied.
"Good. I need an address."
Y/N, on the other hand, was getting sick of the beeping and vibrating of her pager. At first she thought was an urgent call, but it was the same message she got a while ago. Only this time, the word 'She' was replaced with 'The Handler'.
It kept on coming one after another as if there was no tomorrow. Who the hell is this Handler?
Five noticed the frustration Y/N had as he put a piece of paper in his pocket. He looked at the beeper that was on the counter. It kept vibrating and beeping every 3 seconds. "Aren't you gonna read that thing?"
"Why even bother reading it? It's been sending me the same message over and over again." Y/N muttered as she drank her espresso straight up.
Curious, Five took the pager from her and read the message.
The Handler wants you.
The boy's breath hitched as he read it. He was about to speak up and tell her. Until a few armed people that Five knew too well entered the place. The girl was confused but still collected herself in the situation.
Number Five hummed, "That was fast. I thought I'd had more time before they found me." He was calm even though the gun was pointed at him.
"Okay. So let's all be professional about this, yeah? On your feet and come with us." He commanded both of them. "They want to talk."
"We've got nothing to say."
"It doesn't have to go this way." The armed man insisted, "You think I wanna shoot two kids? Go home with that on my conscience?"
Y/N suddenly heard Five's thoughts of killing them all. The girl scoffed and turned to the guy, "I wouldn't worry about that." She said.
"What?"
Five looked at the man behind him with a straight face, "You won't be going home."
His hand grazed over a butter knife and grabbed it with him as he spatial jumped from his seat. They started shooting senselessly when he jabbed the knife on the man's neck. Y/N made herself invisible at the scene and stabbed another one right through his chest.
Once again, they started shooting all over the place until they realized no one was actually there. They looked around for them and nothing. Suddenly, both Five and Y/N appeared on another table.
Five was laying there on the table while Y/N was sitting on a chair backwards. "Hey assholes!" The boy called out. When they saw the two of them, they started shooting the spot. But they were too slow to even get a bullet through.
They all tried to look for them again, only to find out that Five was outside knocking through the glass and the girl was behind the counter dinging the bell in front of her.
Two men started aiming and shooting like there was no tomorrow once more. The girl dodged at every bullet by flipping and tumbling swiftly like an acrobat.
She landed on another table between the two of the armed men and clashed their heads together as hard as she can. Another one tried to shoot her from behind, although his neck snapped when Y/N shortly tilted her head to the side.
Five got his tie in his hands and choked an armed man from behind with it. Another tried prying him off the guy, but he was fast enough to jab the waitress' pencil into his crotch and held it in there as he threw a plate to the other from afar. He pulled the pencil out and stabbed it in the eye this time.
The girl turned herself invisible again and punched a man square in the jaw. The guy was confused when he felt the pain shot through him as there was no one there. Y/N took this as an opportunity to climb up his shoulders and twist his head with her legs.
The both of them landed in the middle of the room, backs facing each other. The remainder of them readied their guns to shoot. Five grabbed Y/N's hand and jumped along with her before any of the bullets lands on them.
Instead, all of the bullets they shot altogether landed on each of the armed men.
Soon, the both of them appeared at the spot where Five choked one of them with his neck tie. The boy took the strap of fabric and tied it back around his neck neatly. Suddenly, a man groaned, indicating that he was still alive. The both of them looked at each other, Five nodded as a gesture for the girl.
Y/N exhaled as she approached the man's limp body and snapped his neck. Her pager suddenly beeped rapidly, causing her eyes to trail over a piece of plastic with a glowing green screen on it. She picked it up from the ground and analyzed the screen.
There were two red dots. One of them attracts her pager and the other was Five. "Looks like we got ourselves some stalkers." Y/N panted as she showed the item to Five.
The boy figured that the little tracker was inside his arm. So he rolled up his sleeve and cut a small opening on his arm with a sharp knife. He couldn't help but wince in pain as he went to take it off with his bare hand.
Just by watching him made Y/N struggle. With that, she swatted his hand away from the open wound and used her telekinesis to get it out.
"Thanks." Five said as Y/N handed the small tracker to him.
"Don't mention it." The girl took her pager and left it on the table as it also has a bug in it. The both of them left the doughnut shop destroyed.
Y/N unbuckled the strap of her helmet and put it over her head. She kept her motorbike standing by holding the clutch and the seat as she kicked up the center stand.
"Meet me at Vanya's," the girl jumped as Five spoke up. She almost let go of the bike.
The H/C haired girl sighed, "Why should I?" She asked as she straddled her motorcycle.
"Because I need to tell you both something."
The girl battled with her own thoughts. A part of her wanted to say no. But then again, it might be important. So she gave in.
"Why not just go there together?" Y/N suggested and patted the seat behind her.
"Alright then." Five obliged.
When he was settled, Y/N started revving the engine. "Hold on tight, old man," The girl advised.
"This is going to be a bumpy ride."
****
The girl came into a halt when they arrived in front of an apartment building. The Triumph kept growling until Y/N turned it off. She was about to get off the bike, but Five was still clutching her torso.
The E/C eyed girl rolled her eyes at him, "You can let go now." She reminded.
Five pried himself off of her and mumbled, "Sorry,"
Number Eight sighed as she got off the bike. Instead of letting her climb through the window, Five took her hand and jumped in by the blue mist in his hands.
Before she knew it, they were inside Vanya's apartment. Five sat himself down by the lamp and waited for his sister to arrive. Y/N wondered what he wanted to tell them.
She couldn't help but stare at the blood that was seeping through Five's blazer. "Five," she called out.
The boy turned his attention to her, "Yes?"
"Roll up your sleeve." Y/N pointed. Five frowned but did it anyway. He carefully rolled it up, trying not to make the wound worse.
As he did so, Y/N inhaled sharply as she pulled out a handkerchief from her pocket and placed it on the wound. She pressed her hand against it to stop it from bleeding as she gestured the boy to replace her hand with his.
Y/N knew the ins and outs of Vanya's apartment as she always visits her whenever she passes by the apartment building after work. Therefore she knew where the gauze pads, cotton balls and antiseptic were placed.
She closed the medicine cabinet after she grabbed a couple of things to treat Five's wound and went back to the living room. The boy's eyes followed her every movement until she sat down in front of him.
The girl focused as she soaked the cotton with the antiseptic. She took her handkerchief back and gently rubbed the soaked cotton around the wound. She felt Five staring at her.
"It's rude to stare." She stated, not taking her eyes off the wound as she opened up a packet of gauze pad. Five snapped out of his gaze as soon as Y/N spoke up. "Sorry." The boy mumbled
Once she was done, she took a quick trip to the bathroom and return the supplies she used from where they belonged. As she did so, she began wandering in her own thoughts:
What the hell just happened there?
What is so important about what Five's gonna say?
Why did I even come here?
****
Vanya blankly opened the creaky door as if it was just another day for her. She got startled when Five turned on her lamp that illuminated his face. "Jesus!" She exclaimed.
"You should have locks on your windows." Five advised as if it was normal.
"I live on the second floor." Number Seven replied as she put aside her keys.
"Rapists can climb." The boy stated as if it was normal to say so.
Vanya looked away from Five to close her door, "You're so weird." She blurted in the process.
After she took off her coat, she sat down on the couch. Vanya became worried as she glanced at the blood stain on his blazer. "Is that blood?" She asked.
Five glanced at his wound and looked back at her, "It's nothing. It's been taken care of."
"Why are you here?" She questioned.
"I've decided you and Y/N are the only ones I can trust." He answered with a sigh. Which is true. He had been close to Vanya as his sister more than the rest of his siblings. He gained his trust on her.
But what made him trust Y/N? Ever since his father adopted her and joined her to the group, they were practically nothing but two strangers the were living in the same household. That is until they got older. When it was time to have their lights off at night, they weren't allowed to get out of bed anymore. And she was the only one who has the ability to talk telepathically.
If either of them couldn't sleep, they would simply contact each other through their minds and chat for a little bit which made them closer than they thought they would.
"Wait, Y/N's here too?" As if on cue, Y/N got out of the kitchen, "Yep, I'm here." She answered as she plopped herself down beside Vanya. "Unwillingly." The girl muttered, looking down.
"So, why me?" Vanya questioned as she looked back at Five.
"Because you're ordinary." He blurted out. Vanya would be lying if she wasn't offended. Y/N's eyes shot up at Five, glaring at him for his ridiculous reason. "Because you'll listen." He added.
"Okay.." Vanya muttered. She let him continue explaining.
"When I jumped forward and got stuck in the future, do you know what I found?"
"No." Both Y/N and Vanya replied.
"Nothing." The H/C haired girl looked up in disbelief as he continued, "Absolutely nothing."
"As far as I could tell, I was the last person left alive. I never figured out what killed the human race, but... I did find something else. The date it happens." He recalled. Y/N wanted to cut to the chase already, but she figured it wasn't right to find it out herself instead of the one who had seen it.
"The world ends in eight days, and I have no idea how to stop it." He finished. Vanya blinked as it was a lot to take in for herself. But Y/N was bewildered. They took their time pondering over it.
"I'll put on a pot of coffee."
Before Vanya could stand up, she heard the click of the coffee maker's switch. She turned to her sister, who was avoiding eye contact, and gave her a look.
"I already did.."
