“Yeah,” Chloe beamed. “Barking Barker got fat.”
“Are you serious?” I asked, thrown back in complete shock. “Sarah, the girl who would limit herself to three lentils at lunch so she could maintain her size six figure, got fat?”
“Yeah,” Chloe grinned. “Mum saw her last Friday in town and said she has got huge.”
“Oh my God!” I laughed. “What is she even doing with her life now?”
“Last I heard she was working the 9 ‘til 5 shift in a call centre selling kitchens,” Chloe smiled.
I sat looking at Chloe, trying to take it all in, as the food got delivered to our table. “You know that Jessie J song ‘Who’s Laughing Now’,” I paused. “I feel like it’s really relevant to this right now.”
Chloe nodded in agreement as she stuffed some chips into her mouth. “Man, I love Nandos,” she grinned with another handful of chips hanging out of her mouth.
“What does Josh even see in you?” I joked.
“Well it’s obviously my sexy charisma,” she winked, stealing a chip off of my plate, even though she still had the majority of her own chips left on her own plate.
“Obviously,” I laughed, gently hitting her hand away from my plate as she went to steal another chip. “You’ll get fat, Barking Barker.”

“Yeah, I’ll have one large sweet popcorn, a large Diet Coke and umm.. I paused as I looked up at the advertisement boards to choose what else to order to snack on for the duration of the movie, or going by mine and Chloe’s track record with movie snacks, by the beginning of the opening credits. “I’ll have a bag of skittles as well.”
Chloe turned to me as she stood at the next kiosk, ordering what she wanted for the movie. “Since when did you change your name to Sarah?” Chloe joked.
As the server placed the bag of popcorn on the counter and began to sort out the Diet Coke, I grabbed a couple of pieces of popcorn from the bag and chucked them in Chloe’s direction.

Walking into the cinema screen room, me and Chloe found a seat right in the middle of the back row. It wasn’t even because there was nowhere else to sit – the whole cinema was completely empty; we just preferred to sit at the back – the best view. “Wow, this party really died,” I laughed sarcastically as me and Chloe got sorted out in our seats.
“It’s so empty,” Chloe grinned.
“It better be because everyone is out in the world doing other things,” I said as the lights dimmed. “..and not because it’s a crap movie.”
“Oh, trust me,” she smiled as she turned to me. “It’s not.”
“Why?” I asked, looking back at her. “Have you seen it before?”
As the beginning of an advertisement began to play, Chloe shushed me.
“It’s only an advertisement though,” I giggled. “The movie isn’t due to start for another ten minutes so we can talk.”
“It might be advertising a movie that we wanna see on our next best-friend date,” Chloe smiled, turning back to the cinema screen and completely ignoring me.
I looked at her, wondering why she was acting so suspiciously.
“I’ve never met anybody like her,” a voice on the advertisement said as the film showed a montage of old film footage – Grease, Dirty Dancing, Ghost – all the films were classic 80s films that I absolutely loved.
