Wrapping a fluffy pink scarf around Katy’s neck, I smiled at her as she grinned at me. Her little fingers were in a matching pair of gloves and a pink hat sat on top of her head. She looked all nice and warm in her new cream coat that mum had bought for her as an early Christmas present.
“Ready, mummy!” she grinned.
“Are you all nice and snug as a bug in a rug?” I asked.
She nodded before running off to join George in the lounge, who was sat with Josh, Chloe and Joel. Bonfire Night was probably my favourite night in the whole year, apart from Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Years Eve. Nothing beat being able to wrap up in all your winter clothes and stand in a local park or somebody’s garden with a roaring fire and watching the fireworks in the sky. The smell of gunpowder and toffee apples meant winter was coming and I couldn’t wait. A winter pregnancy had to be better than a sweltering summer pregnancy.
Once I finished wrapping myself up, which turned out to be more of a struggle since my maternity winter coat wasn’t fastening as my bump had grown that much in just the two weeks since I bought it, I walked into the lounge to see everyone looking at the latest scan photo.
“I can’t believe that you’re going to be having twins,” Chloe laughed. “Can’t believe that you’re actually having another baby. I thought one was going to be it for you.”
“It wasn’t really planned,” I confessed. “But best thing that could happen to us. I know now I was a bit naïve to say that I wasn’t ready for another baby. I can’t wait to meet these two now. None of us can.”
“When are you due?” Chloe asked, taking one more look at the baby scan that was in her hand.
“February 20th,” I smiled.
“You’re so big!” Josh teased.
“Oh, shut up, Josh,” Chloe groaned. “She isn’t that big. She is carrying two babies remember.”
“She knows I’m only joking,” Josh winked, putting his arm around Chloe’s body and dragging her towards him - even though it was obvious she didn’t want him to.
“Katy, are you ready to go see the fireworks?” George asked Katy, taking the awkwardness that had invaded the room between Josh and Chloe.
Katy nodded, pulling down on the strings on her coat so her coat popped open - something she evidently wasn’t expecting as she looked down at her coat in confusion. “Bang!” she grinned.
“And what sound does the fire make?” I laughed, kneeling down slightly to fasten her coat back up.
“Roar!” she giggled.
George looked at me as I struggled to get back up. Hand on my bump, I finally made it back up after a few moments. It was only until I straightened out my coat that I realised George was actually looking at me. I smiled at him but I didn’t receive a smile back surprisingly. He looked worried. He looked really worried.
“I’m fine,” I mouthed.
George shook his head as he stood up and took hold of my arm, dragging me into the hallway and closing the door into the lounge slightly. “Don’t you see it?” he asked.
I shook my head in confusion. “See what?”
“Them two. Chloe looks like she’s pissed off completely with Josh and Josh just looks like he’s trying too hard to make her smile,” he whispered.
I paused as I went to shake my head but the sound of them arguing in the lounge flooded into the hallway. Katy rushed out and straight into George’s arms, looking at us with her big eyes. “I’ll talk to her later,” I smiled.
