Sitting on the bed in the hotel room, snuggling up to Katy as we watched Katy’s new Toy Story DVD, I glanced over at George, who was stood in his towel looking through the clothes that were hung up in the wardrobe. I wanted to help him find something to wear but I knew he didn’t want to go in the first place so there was no point talking to him yet.
“Little Bo Peep!” Katy grinned as her favourite Toy Story character flashed up on the screen.
“That’s right, Katy,” I smiled, returning my attention back to the film.
Even though I was watching the movie, I still couldn’t help but glance over at George ever so often to make sure he was okay. I understood why he didn’t want to go take Justin for a drink but at the end of the day, he was the one who suggested it in the first place - it wasn’t like I pushed him into doing it.
“So what are you girls up to tonight?” George sighed as he buttoned up his shirt.
“We’re going to have a night in watching movies, aren't we?” I smiled to Katy, who was holding up her three eyed alien teddy that she had bought with her birthday money from my mum and Michael at Disneyland.
“Yeah!” Katy beamed.
“Is daddy going to get a kiss before he goes out?” George asked to Katy as he sat on the end of the bed.
I moved my arm so Katy could get up. As she crawled along the duvet, I looked at George. It was obvious he was avoiding eye contact with me at all cost but it still didn’t stop me from looking at him. I didn’t get why he was so angry at me. I did say to him that he didn’t have to go through with it.
“Love you,” Katy beamed as she gave George a kiss on the cheek.
Scooping her up into his arms, George spun her around. Katy’s giggle filled up the room. It was the most perfect sound in the entire world. It was that sort of sound that could make even the most depressive person crack a smile.
“I love you too,” George smiled, placing her back down on the bed. “Behave for mummy.”
As Katy crawled back up to the top end of the bed and snuggled into me, I watched George as he grabbed his jacket. I only managed to catch a few seconds of eye contact with George but I could tell he was in a mood with me. I didn’t say anything. I just let him go without saying a word. I didn’t want to argue with him. I didn’t want him to go and cause a scene with Justin. It was obvious that if George and Justin got caught together at the bar anyway that the press would get involved - I didn’t want to make it worse by having George doing something stupid like hitting him. That was the last thing we needed right now,
Apart from the light from the closing credits of the movie which was playing away to itself on the television screen, the entire hotel room was in darkness. Katy was curled up beside me as I spooned around, running my hands through her soft hair as she slept silently in my arms. Her head was burrowed beneath my chin as I held onto her tightly. Her little eyelids flickered as she was fast asleep, dreaming about Disneyland presumably.
“Night night, princess,” I smiled, reaching for the television remote that was laying on the bed behind me and turning the television off, before kissing her forehead and closing my eyes to fall asleep myself.
I must have been asleep for a matter of minutes before I heard footsteps in the corridor outside the hotel room before keys rattling in the door’s lock. I decided to stay on the bed, pretending that I was asleep as George finally made his way into the hotel room. The light remained off as he locked himself into the bathroom. I could just sense from the way he was breathing heavily and stomping around the bathroom that he was pissed off.
