Chapter Ninety-Two.

Rushing out of the front door, I put the keys in the door to lock it back up as I stood in the freezing cold, counting down the seconds until I could climb into my car and turn the heating up full blast.

“Sammy..”

Groaning to myself, I turned around to see Chloe stood behind me, wrapped up in all her winter clothes as she looked at me with glazed over eyes. “I was just wondering if you wanted to go for a coffee. I miss my best friend.”

“Oh, I’m just going out. I’ll give you a call later on though and we can do a coffee tomorrow?” I suggested.

“Um, okay.”

Just as Chloe was about to turn around, looking disappointed, I gently grabbed hold of her arm. “Well, if you’re free all day, I suppose you can come to the studio with me. I won’t be much fun but I’ve missed my best friend too. We can go for a coffee when I’ve finished too?”

Chloe’s disappointed face suddenly was replaced with a grin. “Definitely.”

As I hauled my ass into the driver’s seat on my car, Chloe hopped into the passenger seat. Just as I switched on the engine and began to reverse off the drive, Chloe turned to me. “I need to tell you something too,” she paused.

“What?”

“Josh has filed for a divorce.”

“Chloe, I’m so sorry,” I said, looking at her. “I know you loved Josh and I know you..”

Chloe quickly interrupted me before I got the chance to finish my sentence. “That’s not everything.”

I looked at her in confusion. “It’s not?”

She shook her head. “I moved in with Kieran.”

“Moved in?” I questioned. “Isn’t it a little soon?”

“It just feels right,” Chloe smiled. “I loved Josh, but we were missing something and I’ve found that with Kieran.”

Silence filled the car for a few moments before it was broken again.

“Sammy, will you meet Kieran?” she asked nervously. “He hasn’t met anybody yet. Mum and dad have pretty much disowned me for everything apart from when it comes down to you, Katy or Joel so they won’t meet him and I don’t really have many friends down here who I can count on apart from you. It would mean so much.”

I glanced across at her, silently debating about her proposal to myself.

“Josh is one of my best friends, Chloe. I know you are too and I want you to be happy - believe me - but you can’t expect me to meet the guy my best friend cheated on my other best friend with. Not yet anyway.”

Sitting in the chair of the studio, I scribbled a few ideas of lyrics down on the paper in front of me but nothing seemed to be making any sense. Usually I would write two phrases down and they would magically turn into lyrics right in front of me, but right now a chocolate fire guard was making more sense than what I was coming out with.

“I never realised how boring your job was,” Chloe sighed as she rocked back and forth on the chair beside me, watching me as I struggled with writer’s block.

“Yeah, the award shows, album releases, tours, meeting celebrities etc. is so boring,” I joked. “I know this doesn’t seem like fun right now but it is to me. What else would I be doing? Stuck in an office all day, wishing five o’clock would approach faster? I don’t think so.”

“True,” Chloe nodded. “So how’s George and Katy?”

I paused. I wanted to respond but I didn’t want to admit that George and I were on a break right now. “Great. Yeah. Chloe, give me an hour and then I can talk.”
