Chapter Sixty-Four.

As the music began to play in the arena, I stood in the middle of the stage in complete darkness. The odd flash from a camera that was being used in the audience lit up the arena for a split second, but I still remained in the dark to everyone. Placing my hand on my bump for one last time before I performed, I smiled to myself. It felt good having a secret from everyone else. George and I weren’t telling anybody yet since it still was early days in the pregnancy. Not even Katy knew yet as she could easily blurt it out so we decided it was best to tell her at a later date. Plus she was still too young to fully understand what ‘being pregnant’ meant. We could tell her and she wouldn’t be bothered. She wouldn’t understand that she was going to get a baby brother and a baby sister or two baby brothers or two baby sisters. We could tell her and she would probably just nod and then go play in the garden or something.

I took one quick glance at my stomach before taking my starting position.

“Shawty’s love is like a pyramid,” the backing singers began to sing in the corner of the stage, arranged like a choir as the spotlight shone on them. “We stand together till the very end. There’ll never be another love for sure. Sammy, here we go.”

This was it - it was my time to shine. “Stones heavy like the love you’ve shown, solid as the ground we’ve known, and I just wanna carry on,” I began to sing, looking out into the centre of the audience as the spotlight glistened down on me in my golden sequin ball gown. “We took it from the bottom up, and even in a desert storm, sturdy as a rock we hold, wishing every moment froze. Now I just wanna let you know.”

“Earthquakes can’t shake us,” the backing singers carried on singing as I looked out at the audience in amazement at how comfortable I felt on the stage, singing my own material, making a comeback. “Cyclones can’t break us. Hurricanes can’t take away our love.”

“Pyramid, we’ve built this on a solid rock, it feels just like its heaven’s touch, together at the top, like a pyramid. And even when the wind is blowing, we’ll never fall just keep on going, forever we will stay.. like a pyramid.”

As the chorus hook played in the background, I smiled as soon as I laid eyes on George in the audience, holding onto Katy, who was grinning back at me. It was mind-blowing to think that the last time I was in the venue was at the last VMAs I was invited to as Union J’s guest where we announced being pregnant with Katy and now, here she was, nearly two years old, watching me perform my final single before finishing at the record label. Pregnant again. Twice.

“Cold, never ever when you’re close, we will never let it fall. A story that was never told. Something like a mystery and every step we’ve took we’ve grown, look how fast the time has flown, a journey to a place I know,” I grinned to myself, singing effortlessly as if the words came naturally to me - I suppose in a way they did. “We’re going down in history.”

The choir carried on singing the chorus as I looked out at George and Katy in the audience. George had let Katy stand on his knees, regardless of the fact he had his best suit on, and was holding onto her hands as if they were dancing together.

“Pyramid, keep it going. Pyramid, we’ve built this on a solid rock, it feels just like its heaven’s touch, together at the top, like a pyramid. And even when the wind is blowing, we’ll never fall just keep on going, forever we will stay.. like a pyramid.”

“Pyramid.” Carrying on the note for as long as I possibly could without going out of tune, I felt like some sort of Goddess as the wind machines blew my hair gracefully backwards. The arena rose into a standing ovation as I continued singing the song until I finished. As soon as I finished, I received another standing ovation. Looking down at Katy in George’s arms, I blew her a kiss only to have her blow a kiss back to me.

“Sammy,” a voice called down the corridor in the opposite direction to where me and George were walking, laughing at Katy as she ran off down the corridor.

“Katy, come back here,” I grinned, calling after Katy before turning around to see who wanted me. “Don’t run far from mummy, okay?”

To my surprise, as I turned around, I saw Justin stood in front of me with a huge smile across his face. “I didn’t know you were gonna be here,” he smiled before hugging me.

I awkwardly looked at George as I hugged Justin back. “Yeah, it was sorta a last minute thing,” I grinned. “How are you?”

“I’m good,” he smiled. “I hear a congratulations is due to you both.” I looked at George as my jaw dropped - how did he know about the pregnancy? George looked at me in confusion as he picked Katy up. “I mean with the wedding..” Justin clarified.

“Oh,” I laughed. “Yeah.”

“Why? What did you think I meant?”

“Sammy, you might as well just tell him. People are gonna find out soon anyway.”

“Mummy pregnant!” Katy beamed, saving me the job.

“Whoa,” Justin stuttered.

“Good job,” George whispered to Katy, thinking I wouldn’t hear him but I did.

After giving George a suspicious look, I turned back to Justin and smiled. “Yeah, what she said,” I laughed, patting my very slowly growing baby bump. “Twins.”

“Congratulations,” he smiled sincerely. “Both of you.”

“I’m gonna be a big sister,” Katy grinned to Justin.

“I can remember when she was tiny,” Justin laughed, stroking Katy’s cheek with his finger as she grinned at him.

“Yeah, same,” George snapped, putting Katy down on the floor so she was out of Justin’s reach.

“George!” I snarled.

“It’s fine,” Justin smiled. “I wouldn’t be too polite either if my wife just bumped into her ex. I get it. But George, the better man won so congrats.”

Just as Justin turned around to walk away from us, I threw a disapproving look at George. “Justin,” George called.

“Yeah.”

I looked at George, waiting for what he was gonna say. You could tell he was taking a deep breath as his chest rose up and he lifted his head up high, just like he did before going on stage to perform. “I’m sorry for being a bit of a,” he covered Katy’s ears. “You know, a bit of a twat. We’re in LA for a few days and I’d like to take you out for a drink, just to call it quits.”

“That’d be cool,” Justin smiled. “I really appreciate that, George. I’ll DM you my number on Twitter.”

As Justin began to walk off, I turned back to face George. “Thank-you,” I grinned, kissing him on his cheek.

“Daddy!” Katy screeched at the top of her voice since George still had his hand over Katy’s ears as she stood in front of him.

“Sorry,” George laughed, picking Katy up and embracing her tightly within his arms.
