Walking around the shopping mall by myself, I looked at all the usual shops that I used to dribble over the displays in their windows but it didn’t bother me right now. I was struggling to fit in my usual clothes so there was no point getting clothes now that I’d have to wait a few months until I could even begin to plan to wear them. I didn’t even want to go look at maternity clothes as that would just set the media off if someone realised what I was looking at.
Walking past the toy store, I glanced in through the window before taking a much more serious look. Stopping outside the entrance, I debated silently with myself until deciding to walk into the store. I was amazed at all the toys that were available these days. Back when I was Katy’s age, I was content enough with my play mat and teddy.
I browsed through the selection of toys for girls. I didn’t know what to get. Katy was always spoiled at her birthday with toys and we had spoilt her at Disneyland on her birthday with a mini-shopping spree in the Disney Store so I didn’t want to get her too much otherwise she wouldn’t appreciate every time somebody got her a toy as a gift.
After picking up a box of baby accessories that Katy could use for her baby doll, I went straight to the cashier till and queued up in the line of other customers.

“Are you sure about this?” George asked, leaning against the door frame as he looked at me sat on the bed. “I thought we could just sit her down and explain it to her.”
“I think she’d appreciate this way more,” I grinned, wrapping up the box in some wrapping paper I’d bought at the greeting cards store after buying Katy’s gift. The wrapping paper was appropriately decorated with baby foot prints on it. “Plus, it’s a creative way of telling her, isn’t it?”
George nodded, smiling at me as I looked up at him.
“Now, go get the camera because I think it’d be a great way of announcing it to everyone else as well,” I insisted.
Following my instructions, George disappeared off in search of the camera, leaving me to finish off wrapping the present in peace.
Once I’d finished tying a bow around the present, I grinned down to my bump and patted it gently. “Here goes,” I whispered to the babies before standing up from the bed and carrying the gift in my hand as I went in search of George and Katy.
Walking down the stairs, I heard Katy babbling away to herself in the lounge. “Mummy!” she beamed as soon as she saw me walking into the room towards her.
“Hello,” I grinned, picking her up after I dropped the present onto the sofa - making sure it was out of her sight.
“Got it,” George said as he walked into the lounge to join us, carrying the camera.
We both looked at Katy, who was holding onto me as she basked in all the attention. “What?” she giggled.
I looked at George, who had managed to set the camera up on the mantlepiece, pointing down at our sofa. As soon as I got a confirmation nod from him, I put Katy down on the sofa and sat beside her. She looked at me through her gorgeous brown eyes with a smile on her face as I plucked up the courage to give her the gift that would change her life forever.
Reaching behind the cushion of the sofa, I pulled out the box and gave it to her. “Katy, you’ve got a little present here from two special people who you’ll be meeting soon,” I smiled as she looked at the wrapped box.
George sat down on the other side of Katy and watched Katy as she tore the wrapping paper off the present with a smile tattooed on his face. I couldn’t help but grin as Katy finally revealed the present.
“Baby!” she beamed.
“Katy, mummy’s pregnant,” George smiled. “You’re going to have not one little brother or sister to play with, but two.”
Katy looked up at George before looking up at me with a look of pure confusion on her face. “Brother?”
I nodded. “Or sister,” I smiled. “But I’m gonna need your help to look after the babies when they get here as I won’t be able to do it all by myself. Do you think you could do that?”
Katy grinned as she stood up on the sofa and put her arms around me to hug me.
“I take that as a yes then,” I laughed, hugging her back.
“Do you think you’re up to being a big sister?” George asked, grinning as he watched us hug.
Katy let go of me and jumped on George, hugging him as well. “Yeah!” she beamed.
My heart melted as I watched Katy’s smile get bigger and bigger as George pressed her hand down on my baby bump. Snuggling up beside me, Katy rested her head on it with her ear against my skin and tried to listen to her new siblings. It took her a few moments to realise she wouldn’t be able to hear a thing before she looked up at me.
As George got up from the sofa to retrieve the camera that had got our special moment saved on it, Katy placed her head back on my bump and grinned as she closed her eyes. Running my hands through her soft hair, I couldn’t help but beam as I watched her try to talk to her little brothers or sisters or brother and sister. That moment right there made all the discomfort and throwing up and mood swings and food cravings worth it.
“Look at your Twitter,” George grinned as he looked up at me with the camera in his hands.
Being careful to not get in the way of Katy’s bonding time with the baby bump, I reached over for my phone that was on the coffee table and went straight onto the Twitter link. There was two tweets from George.
The first one was a tweet with a link to a video - presumably the video of Katy being told about our news. “We have news..”
Rewatching the moment again just made me smile even more than I already was. Katy’s face was priceless as she realised she was going to be a big sister.
Then there was a second tweet with a photo attached. The photo must have just been taken moments ago as Katy was resting on my baby bump with a huge grin on her face as I smiled down at her. “My little family.”
He was right. Our little family was almost complete.
